Add Shallow waters / Shoals into the game?

  • Hi,

Just a simple idea or a wish that came to my mind during the Scale Test. What I would like to see in the game are some areas with shallow waters, under water rocks or shoals that would require you to have someone in the crow's nest keeping an eye for these areas so you do not wreck your ship. I know there are shallow waters near the islands, but I think it would be cool to have some scattered around the seas just to spice things up a bit.

I would also think that these shallow areas should be deep enough for a slope to sail through them, but too shallow for the galleon. Slopes might be sailed by solo players who do not have anyone spotting the shallows, and it would also give some more possibilities for slopes to outrun galleons (with usually more crew) if chased by one.

    What do you guys think?

  • I like this idea, could be a good opportunity for reefs/ underwater caves that you have to swim to and explore for chests and such. Could even have a new class of enemy that are exclusive to underwater caves: grotto dwelling fish men!

    Great idea!

  • I like every idea that implies of a situational advantage enjoyed thorough knowledge, skill and surprise elements influenced by believable enough fantasies delivered to entertain us. Features that take advantage of this type of behavioural model effectively extend the freshness of the product, meaningful gameplay and introduces one of the key components to the foundation of a smoothly run customer service; no hassle involved.

Features that bring advantage thorough incoherent rewarding asking results before proficiency, pseudo-randomness in shortcuts asking loot without ventures and r******d progression asking joy thorough maximisation will only bloat products and stretch them instead. This is why I generally oppose mere number games, loot boxes and mass drops, but also unnarrated grind activities within any storyarc down to a degree. Thorough these features the provided customer service also suffers to match assistance needed; demand beyond necessity.

    Good thinking! ^^

  • The middle of the map and a couple of other areas have places like this.

  • I've only watched gameplay on youtube but I saw a set of rocks sticking out the waater and as a galleon chased a sloop through them, the galleon got grunded, bounced around a bit and then slid backwards into deep water again. The sloop got through fine. I think theres some in there already but not sure how many. It would be a very nice tactical option to have them dottedaround as long as they're not too frequent. You don't want to always be able to rely on them or it will be too easy for sloops.

  • Some of them already exist in the game. I used one to escape some unfriendly pirates with a galleon who chased me.

  • @inbred-chimera

Nice. I was not aware that these already exist. I fully agree that there should not be too many of those areas.

  • Its hard to actually notice above the water but many islands, especially the small clusters have very shallow water where you can only get so close. Actually one or two of those clusters have water between two mini islands where it looks like you could sail through but you actually can't, def a game changer when making decisions on evasion.

  • Hello,

I like the idea except the bit about shallows only affecting galleons even though I mostly play with sloops. I also very much like @Sharif-Ali 's idea about adding more reefs/underwater caves.

    Cheers,
