Half-buried and washed up chests.

  • I was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

During the latest scale test I found a barnacle covered chest sort of half buried in on the beach. I remember the devs saying something about chests washing ashore so I figured that was it. I didn't have to dig this, I could just pick it up.

Additionally my crew and I found 2 literal half-buried chests. These were exposed like someone had started digging them but we had to dig them up the rest of the way before we could pick them up. Is this a new feature or did we find someone's treasure that they forgot to complete?

Yes. I came across a Castaway's- and Seafearer's chest on the beach too.

I dont know about the half-buried chests though.

  • Ones washed on shore yes. I have found them to. Some half dug I think was guys that started to got attack on an island or had to sail away and didn't come back for it.

These chests aren't left over from players, they are a new feature added to the game that would help players level up since the xp requirement per level was raised. The reason I know this, is because the half buried chests are half lodged in the ground at an angle, whereas the normal chests would be perfectly horizontal in the ground. There is also no previous evidence of people digging when you find them, so I'm gonna go with my gut and say it's a new feature

  • @haydensolo Possible. But I know I you dig all around and walk away it will go away in a very short amount of time. Ether way I like free chests.

  • Many a things wash up on the shores.....

    Always worth the look!

maybe it was the chest that i tried to uncover. i joined a crew, and saw that they had a location on this island, so i started digging. saddly the chest was stuck after a bit of digging, where i could not grab it. before i could show my teammates where this chest was and let them try, we were attacked and had to sail away

  • @forthelulzow Which island and which rock? Because I had one on my ship but had to log out and didn't have time to get to an outpost so I put it on the closest island super visible lol!

So I cannot confirm the half-buried or washed up chests, but in the last beta - I found a Captains Chest sitting on a rock on an island. It was in a place that I know another player would not place it (too visible). I would say the chances of finding random chests are "rare" but promising none the less.

This is a feature. They're just some of the random chests you can find on the bigger islands.

As for the chests washed up on the shore, I think that's a new feature. I found a few of them right at the beginning of the last scale test, early enough that I doubt another crew had time to just leave it there because of an attack or whatnot.

The half buried ones, I don't know. I've left my share of half buried ones because I wasn't paying attention and another crew got the jump on me. Sometimes they didn't notice the chest, but never stopped patrolling the island because they knew I had a voyage there... So I just had to abandon the chest, half dug up.
