Mutiny! (or not-so-friendly-fire)

  • I propose a mutiny option in crew area, besides vote to brig. Or activating friendly-fire. Here's why; sometimes you might just want to kill that guy on your crew...
Before you grab pitchforks and throw me on the fire, hear me out.
Back in the alpha, we had two galleon crews working together on one ship, we split treasures and ruled the waves... At the end of the session (we knew it was about to time us out) we all got drunk in the tavern and had a blunderbus fight while puking. Great fun! It's remarkably difficult to shoot someone in confined quarters with zero control of your balance, and gobs of green hampering your view! Friendly fire would make this an activity your friends could enjoy from time to time, without needing a complicit second crew.
Second, there could be new interactions within your crew to replace the captain, or get revenge on the idiot at the wheel without sending them to the brig for 5 minutes minimum (we usually use the brig to get rid of crew trolls who don't listen or cooperate)
Possible third, if the "raid" chest kicks down special cosmetics, you can blast your best friend if he/she gets the item you wanted...
It also throws a little more to consider while big battles with skeletons rage.
I suggest a mutiny tab, if friendly fire is not available, so those of us who want more play options can enable them. I realize this could be a griefers opportunity, so the brig is still useful, but would open some instances for great fun to be had as well ;-)

  • Whom else would like more play options in your crew? Maybe even send a crewmates' pet to the ferry of the damned (I always hated that parrot)...

  • The community seems to be having a hard time just with brig abuse. You'll probably have a hard time garnering support for this.

  • @xcalypt0x aye, it might... But that's why I put forward the mutiny option, make it a vote in yer crew maybe?

  • @ryz-argos Yes, but the brig goes through a vote as well and is still having issues. How do we balance tyranny of the majority? :)

  • No, please no, it would be cancer

  • @ryz-argos I hear you on this. I think a dueling system at the least. I'd like to practice sword fighting and maybe you can gamble on a duel. I think there could be pros to having something like this. Just make it so everyone has to agree or it doesn't activate. And at anytime a crew member can change their vote on friendly fire and it comes to an end. No grief, but fun is there for those who want it.

  • It could be a great experience, laughing and blasting your buddies. I rarely play with randoms anymore, preferring to invite my friends. I realize it could be abused, and many other parts of the game can be too. Spawning is awful right now, and the brig gets abused by peeps who just don't want anybody on a whim.
    This is a pirate game...

  • @ryz-argos maybe instead of it being in the crew options this could be a matchmaking option to keep it fair it would only allow solo people and you couldn't invite your friends, that way no ganging up on people, and to balance the risk reward there could be a gold multiplier attached to this option xD

  • @jack-littleshoe then you're dividing the community, requiring devoted servers, and just plain not being a pirate...

  • @ryz-argos how would i be dividing the community, they would still be spawned in the same map as people who didn't click the option, so really just how am i dividing it?

  • it would be a box you click to opt into it, then you would click join sloop/ join galleon and get matchmaked with other people who clicked the box, and then that crew would spawn in a map with both people who clicked the box and who didn't, and maybe to make it really interesting, if people die while in this mode they can't spawn back with the same crew and have to join a new one, the gold reward could also increase the fewer crew members there are, balanced for the sloop/galleon differently of course.

  • If it was a matchmaking option, you would end up on a server that allows such play, or on a different server which turns it off. It would be more efficient as a vote, or just enabled. And the Sea of Thieves is already a dangerous place :-)

  • @ryz-argos again why would they have to be spawned on a different server? the server could just allow both types of play.

  • @jack-littleshoe what you put forward would be a lot tougher to implement in one cohesive environment programming wise, and other players would get confused why some crews can interact in ways they can't. Just make it global, and if they have to, put it for willing participants only.

  • @ryz-argos your confusing me, your the one that said you wanted friendly fire in the game, and yet your saying (it would confuse some crews about why other crews can't interact in ways they can) also what part of clicking a box to opt into a friendly fire match making wouldn't make you a willing party? also who cares how hard this is to implement, they most likely wouldn't do either of our ideas.

  • @jack-littleshoe the team coding this in care how tough it would be to implement. I see you're confused, but all parts of the game so far are there for everyone, not just the people whom enjoy said feature.
If you read the opening post, it was great fun having a drunken bar fight with respawn consequences leading to just a small walk back to the tavern, and that had to be arranged between two separate crews... Still possible, but a lot of work to come to a brief encounter, and I would like to enjoy it with my friends without trying to set up two crews and pray you're on the same server when you log in.

  • There could be other great game experiences created by this besides the ones I initially proposed that other people may find and create too, which will make a perfect fit in the environments they have already implemented. It would make great live streams!
