Option to only get matched with people who are also using a Mic

  • Arr ya freebooters!

I know Rare has done an incredible job with the chat options in game for people who do not use a mic.
Still I found myself going in and out of matchmaking multiple times, just to get on a sloop with somebody that actually has a mic.
Sometimes I'd leave the crew 5 or 6 times, went to set sail in matchmaking again, just to hear somebody talk in game.
I feel there could be an option while yo matchmake to only get on ships with people that also have a mic.
The looking for group on the XBOX gamehub offers a solution here, but during the beta or scale test, there wasn't that much acitivity on those platforms.

(Excuses any grammar mistakes as I'm not a native Englisch speaker)

And remember: You can always trust the untrustworthy because you can always trust that they will be untrustworthy. Its the trustworthy you can’t trust.

  • @sowieso010 yep, i also kind of want this feature, no offense to people who don't have mics, i just find it harder to communicate with you guys and in this game thats a killer.

  • yes! this is soo needed! i would love if they add this

  • Yup this needs to be a thing. I know for some reason wanting to play with others who want to verbally communicate with each other is seen as a great evil but most of us get it
Its no fun playing when one person is in thier own world constantly ignoring what is said or not telling you what is going on.
If we want to play with people with coms we should be able to and if others dont mind a crew who only dances or does gestures in the heat of battle then they can play with them all day long.

  • needed yes, also an option to pick a main language would be nice, 3 attempts at getting into a 4 man crew today and twice was french people and second time was dutch i think.

being scottish made it very difficult lol

  • @sowieso010 It is a feature i would happily see implemented also, it would akso solve alot of players being brigged for not having a headset so it would be a win win. As long as everyone has to use a headset, i dont think someone without a headset should be allowed to host a mic only lobby lol.

No one sees it as a great evil. Or maybe you want to word it to seem worse than it actually is? The non-verbal is context sensitive and wells mostly well, so they can easily communicate with verbal players. It's easy to see if they hear what you say when they "aye" or "no" . That said, this is a fine option to have for those that just wants mics.

You obviously didn't see the other thread about this subject then where anyone not wanting to play without coms was called hateful, racist (yes racist )and bigots who purposely where being mean to deaf people. The mods finally cleaned it up a little but the sentiment was out. Oh there is even someone comparing players who want voice coms to nazis in the other post now before the mods see it.

  • a much better solution than that jerk in the other post.

    more options = better.

  • It's a good idea. So far I have had no problem comunicating without a mic, but it certainly needs a bit of practice, and most people are either not typing fast enough or don't know how to use the comunication wheel. Mic only crew could reduce the frustration for everyone.

  • On the PC its no so bad as there is text chat - They will eventually be bring that to xbox, but for now sailing a ship without being able to speak is boarding on impossible

  • Xbox has a looking for group option. Post, require mic. And invite to party before launching game.
I know this doesn't help in game if someone drops...but a mic only option is a waste of development time in my opinion.

  • Isn't your stance somewhat prejudice? I have a Pirate I sail with who had his tongue cut out by aborigine @BRADBRE-360. He is by far one of the best players in the game. He pulls more chest off an island and in less time than 4 people could. He hits his trails like a big dawg. Fights well and handles the in's and outs of both ships like a champ. You'll be heading to your next destination while a chest that you didn't have is getting cashed and you'll think to yourself " Where's Brad?" ....... 10 seconds later he's in your deck workin sails! Seamless incredible play from a non mic player. Don't underestimate the mic'less or over estimate the use of one. As long as one person is mic'd up the rest can take orders.😁

  • @sowieso010
So much yes, no commo no crew.

  • @bern-dimall
Just because you like it or dont mind it doesn't mean everyone feels that way.
    Thats all anyone is saying.
I am older and dont see as great as i used to and i have a hard time running around deck constantly just to see someones hand signals or lack there of.
I dont expect others to play with me if im to slow to react or not a button clicking fool who cant keep up so why do i have to play with others who make the game harder for me? Its much easier for me to hear all the people tell me whats going on or whats ahead.
We all just want to play, and if some prefers coms over sign language i dont think its so bad.

  • @sowieso010

    Great idea!

  • @misterdoomed I understand your struggle ( I wear 3.0 readers myself). Also, I understand "preference" as I too have preferences concerning SOT. I had a stance very much like yours when I first started playing. Then one day I was on a ship with two players demanding that this guy without a mic leave the game. This was before the radial was available. So I sat back and took in the situation for about an hour or so, giving verbal sail commands, guard the ship, get the treasure, cannons port side, etc..... And what I found was that the guy without the mic was by far outperforming the two guys put together complaining about him. From that moment on I chose never to draw conclusions prematurely on mic'less players. I found the lesson humbling but well worth it as that player has become a dear friend throughout the months we've known each other. I sail with somewhere between 12-15 mic'less players now and around 140 that are mic'd up overall. I love having a crew with one mic'less because it cuts down on chatter. Sometimes if I'm with more talkative players I'll mute my mic to be that "peace" in our group. I'm only sharing this so that others consider their pre conceived notions concerning the "mic'less". Peace

  • @iisrgntwolfii the problem with looking for group is it sometimes can be slow to find people, and maybe people would rather not wait around to find a crew that way and would prefer to start playing right away, looking for group has its place, but it's rarely the best solution

  • @sowieso010 the problem isn't with people not having a mic...it's that the in game voice chat system so completely broken. even with all permissions granted, it still doesn't work properly. it's kind of hard to communicate with your team if the system itself doesn't work for everyone.

  • @craqerjaq - yea, they broke something 2 patches ago for USB PC Mic people. Now the gain is gone, and no-one can hear us unless they do an Xbox party chat (which most players really don't want to do, and it removes the positional audio for other players). Many PC players use PC mics - very very few have analog ones anymore. So until they fix this, you're going to see a large part of the user base that wants to chat...but just...can't...

"Had his tongue cut out by Aborigenes"
That is the most disgusting and racist comment I ever heard. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

  • @happyg-v2 There's a good possibility you live a sheltered life then happy.

  • Just use Discord to find your Crewmates, they'll always have a mic.

I don't understand. An Aborigine is a native, black Australian. Not someone who cuts out tongues?

  • What's not to understand? A native black Australian cut his tongue out. How is that statement racist? Don't shoot the messenger man.
