I've heard a lot of people complaining about how 'overpowered' big ships are, but in my experience, I never feel threatened by the sight of one unless I'm anchored and on an island, as they are easy to avoid. I'd give this a read https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/7ydj8t/solo_players_can_not_only_survive_but_thrive/
Soloing ISN'T impossible
@residentapple12 I think what a lot of people dont get is that soloing isnt supposed to be easy. It is supposed to be difficult but definitely possible.
@d4king55 That's true, it's not super easy. Most of my time this weekend was spent solo, and except for the first 8 hours of the test, it was a challenge. But still fun.
@residentapple12 To add emphasis to the topic:
Here are many tips for solo players:
https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/24675/alone-on-a-wide-wide-sea-collected-hints-and-tips-for-the-solo-pirateWithout a doubt, many of them have avoided me a lot of "problems" :)
I solo killed a 4 man ship but as soon as I brought my ship closer to their 13 ish chests they re spawned and killed me from behind while I was carrying their 2nd chest on board.
Here's the chests.
After a ship sinks they should re-spawn at their new ship.
It used to say that Solo/Sloop was only for the experienced players but if you have to complain on the forums than you are NOT EXPERIENCED yet.

@k7-issues I literaly said it wasnt easy lol
lol your point being? I did too. I solo'd all weekend and had a GREAT time doing it.
@residentapple12 agreed. Solo can be great! The lil sloop seems faster than the galleon n I have had a blast using it to cut through shallow waters n caves n out manouvering bigger ships to either get an advantage or get away.
I think when soloing ppl just need to be more wary. Dont get too greedy n use the environment. One or two chests can be carried ashore n hidden on an island if youre in trouble as you cant take it with the merperson. (I dont know how long they stay for but ive manged to do this a couple of times).
In the event you find yourself overwhelmed, use a skeleton fort. Get the npcs to help you out.
If you have no treasure, dont be afraid to ditch the ship or use it as a weapon (ramming speed!!). It is possible to sneak onto an enemy ship (be very quiet if you left your mic on - proximity) drop their anchor, kill the driver n turn hard to Port. Does the trick, everytime.
Solo is good fun for sure!
I love soloing I find it very relaxing just you and the open sea! You don’t have to worry about random R***y’s coming in screwing you over because they want to play around or have no clue what to do and it allows you to just get in and get out plus the bigger ships aren’t overpowered I’ve seen plenty of solo sloops take down fully crewed galleons you just gotta know how to micro manage your sloop and know where to aim! It’s fun and challenging!!!!

Love your ideas and have used all of them myself. Solo is fun! I've even sank a 2 man sloop by swimming up to them with a gunpowder keg. Quite the surprise the 2 guys hadn't seen gunpowder kegs yet. Swam deep underwater to them.
Solo captains are the best! Yah I never understand people complaining its not fair. Not supposed to be! But that makes it all the more rewarding when you can succeed this way. Personally, at launch a few friends will play and my solo days should be nearly over, although I hope the three of us can pilot a sloop. Seems they are gona allow for this based on tidbits I have heard.
@marcus-arabel gotta love those barrels!!
The possibilities to even the odds in this game are only limited to the imagination when soloing.
I am thinking I wanna try lay an explosive trap. Load the sloop up with strategically placed barrels for maximum effect and leave it somewhere near a busy port not too far from land. Close enough to sniper n set it off. Put a cheap chest or trinket on the deck as bait... Patience would be required but the results would be fantastic!
Mess with the solo pirate at your own peril ;)

LOL, now that would cool! I may have to borrow your idea, kind sir.
Set a straight bearing between Islands, grab your powder keg as the Galleon closes, jump off the front (so they don't see you) and hide underwater till they're about to hit you. Let that keg go and see how many of them join you on the Ferry of the Damned.
If you spawn quick enough, you'll be back on your ship and still sailing.
It's definitely not only possible but very doable. You just have to pay attention to your surroundings and know the strengths of the sloop. Until the last 7 hours or so of the beta this past weekend, I had been solo and I hadn't played that much. I was level 16 when I joined my friends on a crew .. ended the night at level 20 or 21. Beta before that I was solo the entire time and was up in the 20's.
As long as you keep your eyes out for other ships and scout areas before you enter them, you shouldn't have trouble all that often unless you want to get into it.
@pandemicprawn0 boom boom boom...let me hear you say wehyo.... Damn that nda! Will be working hard to replicate that and other things when I get another chance. Some pirate could knock Dr. Disrespect off the no.1 spot on twitch with such antics. Cant wait for full release!!
I was gonna pre-order this game but having gamepass I might just support these mob by spending that cash on some SoT merch to show my love. Rock a hoodie n grab a print or something. Seems fair no?!
