I really hope they add more ships to the servers. I know they said they want you to see a ship every 15 minutes but whatever the ratio is now its not enough. streamers are bored and there just isnt enough right now.
summit and shroud bored they barely see other ships
Ship encounter frequency will not be at our desired level during this play session, with encounters sometimes less than we intend for launch.

I hear you I think they will dynamically ramp things up if the consensus is the game does not have enough encounters in it - you'll have to have a good middle ground though because some players might just want to enjoy the game and not constantly be worried about threats
Unless rare can make some sort of system to give players craving more combat a higher chance to instance with more aggressive players.
@rick330 said in summit and shroud bored they barely see other ships:
the streamers and the chat both agree.
the 'streamers' want action to keep people entertained and keep the views/dollars coming in, and people in chat agree with whatever people in chat agree with...which is usually what they think the 'streamers' want them to agree with.
It is not an extreme paced FPS where there are a million and one things happening in every split second. If it was, I would never play it...even if I was paid to.
There are umpteen games that they can play that can keep the watchers happy if all they want is non stop retina strain.
I'm thankful that this isn't one of them.
EDIT: I'm also assuming 'summit' and 'shroud' are streamers' names?
@rick330 a Battle Royale mode would be popular for 10 mins or so until the fickle move on to the next 'greatest thing ever'
it would also make me not want to never play Sea of Thieves again

@triheadedmonkey yeah two of the most popular. summit actually is the most popular next to dr disrespect.
haha sometimes I'm glad that I am older and out of the loop....I really wouldn't want to be cool
is there any way to block streamers from my twitch/mixer feed? as I have 0 desire to even contemplate watching something by someone named as such...even by accident!
@triheadedmonkey with these opinions this game is going to lose half its population two weeks after launch. this has been my number 1 anticipated game next to red dead redemption 2 i want nothing more than this game to succeed. i've actually predicted all the fails in the last two years from the division to the destiny 2 drop off. plus i've predicted the last 3 games of the year. i just know the psychology of what people want and stick with.
@rick330 my only point was people shouldn't be listening to the opinions of people who get paid by the view (bit basic but essentially that's the nuts and bolts of it)
if a streamer thinks it won't make them money, then why would they like it? unless they are paid to promote it, and then you still can't trust their opinion...they may have even been snubbed when they asked for payment in exchange for a decent review, so might trash it.
at the end of the day, no one's opinions on what you like should matter anywhere near to that of yours.
I ENJOY this game more than any game I have so far...EVER...no question.
The first time I played in the Alpha was the single most enjoyable online gaming experience...and it was played with people I have never met/talked to or even gamed with...yet we played for about 8 hours straight and close to wet ourselves constantly!
This is in part because it isn't a constant action all the time blockbuster shoot-fest....largely because of the lack of leaderboards/forced competition, but mostly because it is hugely enjoyable!
If people are unable to PLAY a GAME and enjoy it for the sake of enjoyment rather than because Dr Troll doesn't like it, then I weep for the future of gaming

also this ^.....
maybe the streamers could take a chance to readpubg is already dying. Highly criticized for being a buggy mess, implementing new features while old ones remain broken, etc.
Instead of running with the pack, Rare might be able to create something new and better here.
I'd rather Rare create a game for people playing the game, not people watching other people playing the game.@triheadedmonkey said in summit and shroud bored they barely see other ships:

I never thought I would like Dr Disrespect, I don't like the games he plays, and his name is clever but is definitely catering to the more "hardcore" gamer, which is a put off for almost everyone. But after watching his stream a few times, his production value is unlike anything you'll see on Twitch, and his personality is a persona he puts on for his stream.
He's an arrogant, brash, trash talking man wearing a wig and gaming sunglasses. It's almost like you're watching a pro-wrestler, which is entertaining at least for a while. Not saying he's the greatest thing under the sun, but what he's is doing is worthy of respect.

yeah, I'm good thanks.
and the 'at least for a while' is one of the problems I have.
people can make obscene amounts of money, for appealing to people for minutes at a time.
If someone has 1,000,000 followers/subs/viewers...does it make their opinion any more valid than mine? any more important than mine? not a chance...but people see the number and think 'oh they must know what they are talking about' and yet, as shown above, they don't even seem to have read the release notes....which, if anything, makes my opinion more important/valid than theirs!where are my followers/viewers/DOLLARS?
at the end of the day, they don't care about games or gaming, only attention and money.
They are 'playing' Sea of Thieves because of the attention and viewers it will bring, nothing more. nothing to do with the testing (as they apparently haven't/can't read the release notes), nothing to do with helping the game or Rare as this test is intended...and maybe there will be a few people that don't play the game because of them, but I doubt the combined IQ would hit double figures.
@rick330 said in summit and shroud bored they barely see other ships:
i'm sure if rare could sell a 3rd of pubgs sales numbers they would take it. i personally cant stand pubg but i know what makes a popular game.
Please enlighten us, what makes a popular game?
I agree with your sentiments @Rick330 . Streamers have a great amount of marketing potential that comes with plenty of pros and cons. RARE is aware of the ship frequency issue and I'm sure this will be something that they will be balancing concurrent to the growth of the game.
However, having tried my hand at Twitch and watching popular big time streamer CohhCarnage (Mostly for the good vibes of his community and his personality), I found that the pressure to entertain and the business aspect of constantly being a game nomad, always moving to the next big thing, depressing.
As mentioned by our fellow pirates above (and I instinctually agree with), the streamers mentioned are here for the business aspect. IF they enjoy the game, they would consume the data regarding it, they would be here on these forums (if only to potentially garner more subs), and be up to date on patch/test/release notes. I wonder if their chat even brought up the point to them of what this scale test is/was.
Here's hoping that some streamers will call SoT home and that this game will provide them with the success and community they desire.@rick330 - As other have already mentioned, ship encounter frequency was mentioned in the release notes.
Release Notes - Scale Test 0.4.0
Ship encounter frequency will not be at our desired level during this play session, with encounters sometimes less than we intend for launch.Saying that, when playing I always have another ship in my sights. Not everyone want to fight so if they spot you first they may run. Just because you're not seeing ships, doesn't mean ships haven't seen you.
People forget this isn't a FPS or PvP driven game, it's a shared world adventure game and some people are happy to just get on with their PvE adventure.
Meh, my brother and I sailed a sloop for about an hour and a half, saw a small sloop in the distance while sailing to an island. Got chased by a galleon, had some chests and powder kegs on board, so we ran into a storm and dropped kegs as sea mines. Galleon found us, boarding action, took our plunder and sunk the sloop, but they were listing badly, hope they sank, haha. After grabbing two more chests, went to an outpost, that had a galleon on it, snuck the sloop in, moored on the far side and hide on the island till the galleon made sail, then turned the chests in. Perfect amount of ships imho.
