I need suggestions on what computer to buy to max out settings

  • Looking to buy a new PC and I want it to play the max settings. If there is something I can already buy, rather than build myself, I'd prefer that. I need the tower and the monitor.

I was looking at Alienware but I got lost. Not even sure if that's the best option? Send links please. Thanks!

  • @skorpio11x For what you'd spend on Alienware, you could build 2-3 PCs... Is building not an option, or just don't want to?

  • @skorpio11x Even though it goes against my better judgement, I would recommend buying a pre-built PC. My reasoning is that, due to crypto-currency mining, GPU's are very expensive right now, and are going for double or even triple their MSRP. So, I'd go for an alienware probably.
Here's the lowdown on the recommended specs tho! Let me know if you have any questions, i have some experience with building PC's and specs and stuff and things, as do many other fine people in here.

  • @shadowstrider-7 building is an option, just not the first option. But if the price is really that much of a difference, I'm willing to learn how to put it all together myself.

Do you have a general idea of how much this would cost me? The PC and the monitor?

To be fair, it all depends on what Alienware you were looking at. It's been roughly 10 years since I've built a PC, but used to get my parts from NewEgg. I still follow the new technologies and @Taydoge-Swift is absolutely correct. GPUs are outrageous. Pre-builts aren't the worst option, but one thing we (and you) need to know is what you want to achieve with the new rig.

  • @taydoge-swift thanks for the info. Which Alienware would you recommend and which monitor?

  • @skorpio11x Like @ShadowStrider-7 said, it depends on your budget and what you're looking to do. I can recommend a build that will set you back 2,500+$, but you'll be rocking 4k graphics at 60FPS. Or i can recommend a middle of the road build that will run 1440p at 60 FPS for 1500 or so. Or, a basic set up that runs at 1080p for a grand or so. Up to you!

  • @skorpio11x What's your budget? What do you want to achieve with the rig?

This isn't terrible, but it's not going to run mythical 4k.

I think I read that BestBuy (might be another company) is selling graphics cards at MSRP if you are buying for gaming. Unfortunately you also have to buy your motherboard and CPU from them as well, and BestBuy is still going to mark it up compared to what you can get on Newegg or Amazon.

  • @xcalypt0x NewEgg open box sales are dirt cheap. That's all I used to buy!

  • Alright man I got you. First you're gonna need TWO Nvidia Titan X's. It's important you get two for MAXIMUM POWER. Then you need the most expensive i9 you can get your hands on, and 64 gigs of RAM. It'll cost you probably over $10,000 but you'll be the talk of the town.

Welcome to the PC M*********e, brother.

  • My budget is around $2,000 for the PC and monitor. Maybe a bit more if needed.

Again, I want to max everything out to get that Mythical 4K/60 setting. If I'm not able to purchase the necessary hardware within budget, I'll probably just buy a second Xbox One X and another 4K/HDR TV instead.

Time to hit up the gym for a few hours. I appreciate everyone's responses here and I'll follow up later tonight or tomorrow!

  • @skorpio11x That opens up more possibilities. Appreciate it.

  • @shadowstrider-7 Yeah I do all of my shopping on Newegg. But I haven't looked at graphics cards lately with the mining craze so IDK how their prices are stacking up right now.

  • @teddy-25, given the description (wants 4k gaming @ 60fps, 2k$ budget), and as Mr. Head of PC, what would yyyoooouuuu suggest for a brand and build?

  • @taydoge-swift Rare's very own....Pirate Machine!™ "it's the second best PC I have ever seen!" ;)

    for everyone though....
4k@60fps Is probably + $2k no? or was I wildly ambitious/naive? My (self-built) PC cost me about £800+ including OS, monitor and misc and I wasn't even building for gaming, let alone 4k gaming!monitor alone is a few 100....GPU(decent) is ...400-600+(and then some at the moment...)? that's about 1000+ already...add in a decent CPU and RAM and it getting close

  • @triheadedmonkey True, a 1080ti at normal price will run you 600-800$, the processor will run around 300-500$ probably. Thats more than half your money right there. A 4k monitor will cost another 500$ or so. Being a PC gamer means my wallet is sad, but whenever i look at my baby, its all worth it.

  • @taydoge-swift yeah, again my PC cost me about £800 total give or take and plays stuff I want fine by my eyes....no doubt if I had deeper pockets I'd go all out (maybe even learn to use K/M rather than a controller...SoT play nicely using on controller on PC for me :) ) but as it is my Xbox is for games and my PC is for PC....ing? Blender/GIMP specifically and so far does its job although was looking at upgrading my 1050ti but then prices made any upgrade really not worth the gain money wise...maybe soon :/

  • Got a laptop with gtx 1080 and some rubbish cpu that bottlenecks it by about 13%. Get more than 120 fps at sea and about 50 at the biggest islands. That's maxed out 1080p and also that's alpha and beta. Who knows how it'll run now. Hope it helps

  • @skorpio11x I recommend building a PC, it is fairly simple and you save a lot of money, upwards of 300-400$.

  • Thanks for all the replies everyone! After thinking everything over for awhile, I've decided the best option is to skip out on getting a PC.

Instead, I'll get another Xbox One X (hopefully a custom Sea of Thieves one is released) and another TV like the one I have now (LG OLED65C7P), but 10" smaller.

Going this route will probably be cheaper and it will certainly be much easier than trying to figure out the PC thing. I initially wanted to go the PC route just so I could also use it for other things besides gaming.

The whole point of all of this is so my GF and I can play SoT at the same time. We both love the game so much!

    Smooth Sailings!

  • Xbox One X

    $500

Cheapest, most efficient way to game in 4K UHD. It's not even a question. You'll nearly spend double for the same specs on a toaster.

  • I got my Pc from a place called CyberPower, I just chose everything I wanted and they put it together for me. It cost me £1030 and I can run pretty much most games, everything max at 1080p 60fps most of the time.

  • Another link to throw in with pre-builts. I build my own but these look pretty nice and you can customize parts. You can also go to pc part picker and look at different parts.

  • @skorpio11x I myself play on a high end computer with dual 4K monitor. I think I wouldn't recomand it to everyone.

Mostly because everyone who uses my computer just tells me "this is wayyy tooo smalll how can you read that?" And no I don't want to change the settings to have everything bigger because that's the point of 4K basically...

And also because 4K is still biased because of the speed of the cables available on the market.

Which means even though your computer can produce a lot of FPS, your monitor will only receive a few because of the cable. Also, depending on the type of player that you are, you will want to maximize the refresh rate of your monitor, and affordable 4K monitor aren't going above 60Hz at the moment.

So with my experience, I would suggest you to stay on 1920x1080 or so, and maximize the FPS/Refresh rate of your monitor on maximum settings (and a 1070 should do if you go with Nvidia and is far less expensive than her big sisters the 1080/1080ti)

    Staf'

  • @stafylocok

I agree though UI scaling in SoT will be a thing for 4k. I would go with what I have currently though which is a 27 inch 1440P monitor which is roughly equivalent to 2.5k. Looks great still and runs smoother than most 4k monitors out now until later this year with the introduction of the new 4k monitors at 144 Hz. No Single GPU can handle that currently until later this year as well though.

  • Yeah as per the other comments you'll need a 1080Ti or equivalent to hit 60, but you might be able to get away with a quad core i5 instead of an i7 to keep the price down. You'll want the 16GB of RAM though for sure!

  • @teddy-25 happen to have any spare 1080's just...kicking around? haha

I don't care, SoT looks uber pretty already...if I were to play at big boy settings I would likely just spend the whole time staring into the sea/stars weeping.....assuming my head didn't implode

  • @taydoge-swift wow this pic is superuseful, no sarcasm, thx man :))))))))))))))

  • @Skorpio11x If you're already playing on Xbox, you may not want to look at a 4k setup. 1440p60 or even 1080p60 will be a visual and performance upgrade from the Xbox, though will probably still be more expensive. Something like The Exterminator from this link would do 1080p60 with no issues and isn't too expensive. The only suggestion I have from there is to add an SSD, because SSDs are awesome and everyone should have one.

I don't know what performance for this game looks like on the Xbox, but if their performance target is 30fps then you may see a nice improvement over your Xbox. Otherwise, buying another Xbox will definitely be your cheapest option.

  • @Skorpio11x If you're indeed looking to get 4k cheap, an Xbox One X and a 55" 4k TV can be bought for less than $1,000. That's going to give you 4k access at the door, rather than spending at least $1,500 for an equivalent experience on PC. Plus, with another Xbox, gamesharing is a breeze, though it can be done on PC as well.
