So an Idea I've had for the game as an added extra to give somewhat of a adventure and bonus for players would be Riddles in a bottle. Here's a short poem pitch:
"The Sea of Thieves has many secrets to discover
But not all of them are as clear as others
For within the sands or within the coral
There hides a riddle in a bottle!
Solve these riddles and you shall find
A treasure you'll not want to leave behind
For these are chests with a value so high
That they're rarely found and are easily passed by
So keep your eyes as sharp as your sword
Fight against the shark or skeleton horde
For their are bottles to be found
Within the sea or on the ground"
The idea is that the riddles in a bottle are random spawn event bottles to find which hold clues to a higher value chest to sell or find. Either found to sell to one of the three traders for a themed piece of equipment (theme being related to the trader you sold the cheat too) or for higher gold value than other chests, or perhaps finding equipment in that chest without having to trade it in.
I don't know how I'd feel about someone else being able to steal the rare chest as it would be incredibly upsetting/annoying to solve the riddle that you've waited however long to find/ to appear for you, only to have it stolen from you so that would be something to consider.
The initial idea is that the chest would disappear after use (whether that's after trading it in or looting it in the location it was discovered) and as the poem suggests the bottles containing the riddles can appear in either shipwrecks or on land on beaches as washed up or next to a skeleton of a fallen pirate who didn't quite find the X that marked the spot.
The riddles location could either be found on the island the bottle was found on or make the players travel somewhere new to add the sense of adventure.
What are your thoughts on this? Would love to hear any other takes on this concept. I personally would love to see some random event concepts within the actual game such as this.
