Will mouse support be improved in the full release?

  • I haven't seen any posts on this issue which makes me think this might be an isolated problem, even though I don't have this problem with any other game... Please do chime in with your experience.

Using the mouse in SoT feels wrong, it feels stuttery and just poorly implemented. I can't quite tell if it's some kind of mouse acceleration or what. It was so bad for me that I just used my controller during the beta.

Does anyone know what's going on here? Surely this will get fixed?? Full disclaimer: I have no hate for controllers or consoles, I use my controller all the time for platformers and drivers. But for first person perspective games I simply prefer mouse and keyboard.

In case Rare is doing this on purpose: If Rare is so concerned about mouse users having an advantage over controller users, then I would rather get the option to disable cross-play, if that means I get a properly working mouse and no console player is forced to play with me.

  • That's really strange. I had no issues using mouse and keyboard whatsoever.
I use a Roccat Kone XTD Optical with set 3400 dpi. There was no stutter or input lag. I don't remember right now if there's a way to change mouse acceleration in-game... Maybe check your mouse settings and tweak them a little bit.

  • @xmcmx666 Interesting, so it might have been an isolated issue after all. I have no idea what could be the problem though as I don't have this problem in other games. I did check the mouse settings in-game but there was no mouse acceleration option or any other option that seemed relevant to my issue. Obviously the beta has ended so I can't experiment with mouse settings and test it out right now. I hope it will just be fixed with the full release... Otherwise it's back to the drawing board.

  • Follow these instructions
Maybe it's no isolated problem and your entry might help the devs to deal with this problem. Put in as much information as possible.

  • @xmcmx666 Will do!

  • It's not just you. The mouse support is not the best. It doesn't feel crisp when you turn or flick. That's the best way I can describe it. It's better with Vsync off and high FPS, but even then, you can still tell that this game was designed for console first and then PC.

  • @clarkalii That's what I feared. I can enjoy the game with a controller, but I would enjoy it even more with a properly functioning mouse. I really hope they work on this.

Here's an ignorant and pointless statement: How hard can it be to get the mouse functioning properly like in EVERY OTHER GAME IN EXISTENCE. Okay I'm done ranting sorry about that.

  • @meatninja69 Yeah, no problem. I understand your frustration. I play Overwatch, CS:GO, and Fortnite, and the mouse support in those games is absolutely pristine, so when I was first exposed to Sea of Thieves, I could instantly tell that the mouse support was not the best.

  • My Roccat Kova 24 button worked fine. Even before they did Custom Key Mapping (thank yinz DEVs btw. Shame yinz incorporated it instantly yet a 'unlucky number' game out since last year is still saying "we're working on it") when I had ALL the Keyboard Keys on the Mouse. Only time I noticed a stutter I instantly realized it was me slightly raising the mouse due to all the movements during Battles. But again THANK YOU DEVS for the Key Mapping, this LEFT HANDED Pirate owes yinz a grog at the Bar.

  • @MeatNinja69 my Razer Naga Chroma worked just fine. Sensitivity was a bit high, but that's easily changed.

  • @thewolfman321 Using a Logitech g403 myself. I do have a Mionix Castor laying around, I guess I will test that one out if the problem persists in the full release.

  • @MeatNinja69 yeah maybe try that. I play a lot of unfinished indie games though so maybe i'm just used to it xD

  • @meatninja69 I use a Logitech g203 and I have not encountered any issue. If you consider it a game bug (and from what you have said, it seems) I recommend that you raise a ticket to the support to report the issue.

How report bugs / Report a bug

  • I use a Razer Abyssus 2014 mouse and I had no problems while playing this game.

  • @meatninja69

While i did not have the same problem as you, I agree that they need to work on mouse support.

Me as well as several other friends didnt manage to get the game to get mouse Focus. So pretty much anything i did, the mouse pointer went out of the game.

Even when turning off the second monitor, it still popped up the task bar when i looked down and showed the window frame whenever i looked up.

Ps: yes guys, i tried hitting escape, alt tabbing in and out, we tried pretty much everything.

  • So today I joined the scale test and as in the previous versions, yes, it feels smooth, not raw. So I'd guess there is no raw mouse input support, so it must be "mouse smoothing". Hope they give us that standard feature before release in a few weeks.

What's also an issue is that you can't separate aiming sensitivity from normal one. I play on 1.3 and my ADS sensitivity is catastrophically low. Hope there'll be a proper PC setting for that.

It's not even nit picking. This game has PVP and I'm not gonna use a controller on PC and get owned by people who play with M/KB. It isn't impossible to play with, but it feels uncomfortable. With high FPS it feels great, but with below 100 - 110, not so much. Much like in Siege, I gotta say.

  • Just bought the game and all my buddies tell me this too. Raw mouse input would be great. and an ADS setting too for the pc users. Also my spyglass and sniper ingame sens is super low on the highest sens even. I play alot of pvp shooting games and I play with a low sensitivity so the mouse smoothing is really prominent for players who used to play with low mouse sens. Hope the hard working devs can fix these sensitivity things soon for the pc users.
