Thinking about buying the game. If I were to buy the game on my Xbox Live account and install it on both Xbox One and PC, would someone be able to play on a separate account on the Xbox One with me on my PC?
Game Sharing Questions
@superbill99 Yes this is possible... We have tested that a few times in the beta and it seems to work. Exactly how you would expect game sharing to work.
@musicmee So we can both play together using the same copy of the game? Just making sure before I buy.
@superbill99 @triheadedmonkey
It's the PC side I am not too sure of, this works seamlessly with Xbox Game sharing on the Xbox... not so confident on the PC side... as you seem to have to be logged into the machine with the Gamertag/Microsoft account and this will auto also log you into the game as this account.
from a logical (and monetary) point of view, I would imagine that the purchase is intended to be a single licence for one account, across both platforms...otherwise whats to stop people buying once and "Playing Anywhere" with 600 friends? haha
I'm sure there are ways and workarounds but I wouldn't be surprised if it violated the ToS....
EDIT: can't find a definitive official answer...but found this post from someone replying to people asking a similar question
just letting you know this doesnt work with forza horizons 3. if my son is using a different gamertag on the home console family or not. and when i log in to the pc version it just logs me in to both devices at the same time and cuts him out.
@superbill99 To be clear about Game Sharing Questions:
All games purchased will be downloaded on the Xbox that the buyer is logged into AND the "assigned home Xbox" of the buyer. This means, if the buyer has multiple xboxes (or an xbox and a PC), as long as the friend is using the buyer's "Home Xbox", the game is shared to all people who log in (and without the buyer having to log in). The buyer can then use an additional xbox/pc that they will need to directly sign into.
To define a "Home Xbox," unless manually changed in the settings, the first xbox one a user logs into will default to their "Home Xbox". This can be changed in Xbox's settings.
@jmlmaster So if I'm playing on my PC on my own account, another account on my home xbox can still play? I know this definitely works on two xboxes but it's an xbox and a PC that I'm not sure about. I want to make sure it works before I buy the game because £50 is quite a lot for me.
@superbill99 though I'm not 100% certain, from a logical standpoint it makes sense. As long as your "Home" Xbox has your friends account on it, you should still be able to log in and play on your account using a PC. A Microsoft support agent (or more knowledgable ambassador than myself) would be able to give you a definitive answer. You should try posting in the forums at (support.Microsoft.com)
Yes...
Game sharing on Windows 10 is very straight forward, here is the steps.
Step 1: On the PC, you would open up the Store App and sign in with the account that owns the game, then download the game. This account will need to be signed in at all times into the store app. That also means that they will be able to buy games with your account if you don't lock it down.
Step 2: The PC user would then just open up the Xbox App and log in with their account.
And that is pretty much it, the downside is that the user will not be able to buy their own games and play them, without having to continually changing users on the Store App itself.
Hope that helps.
