Player Markers / Indicators

  • I was just curious if this was planned for the game? It gets kind of confusing when Im looking around for other players. Sometimes they just run all over the place and most the time they dont have Mics.

  • Would be nice to have them for crew only.
Especially if the icon changes when theyre doing something.

For example if someone is adjusting a sail their icon becomes a Sail. This way you can tell at a glance who on your ship is doing what.

  • From listening tot he Tavern Podcasts, I know they have developed the game with minimal UI in mind as well as player cooperation and communication. I think not having more advanced player icons or tracking lends to both of these design mindsets very well, and therefore probably would not change.

  • @oneeyedkillah it would be nice to have crewmates gamer tags display as long as they are in line of sight. If I'm on watch in the crows nest while my crew is ashore on a treasure hunt, I can't differentiate friend from foe, even if I'm staring at them with a scope.

  • @shadowstrider-7 Yeah, I can understand where your coming from. I have been in moments where I didn't know who to shoot because I could not differentiate. At first it got me frusterated. But after thinking about it it created moments where you have to try and work these things out with your teammates and creates more dynamic and fun experiences.

  • @oneeyedkillah I've found it to be more bothersome than fun. If my sole job is to keep watch and protect the team ashore, I can't do it effectively without asking my mates to not fight back and jump repeatedly so I can identify the aggressors.

  • At first I was pretty frustrated with not being able to 'see' where my crew was. But the more I've played I appreciate the challenge of having to talk our way through where we are at. I generally don't play with Gen Pop so this could be much more difficult with players new to you. With a crew of friends, though, we've done pretty well without it. At this point I almost think it would make things a little too easy.

  • @porkchop87 yeah i can see it kind of ruining the experience.

  • I'd hate to see Sea Of Thieves turned into GTA V. I'd hate to see anything turned into GTA V.

  • @topper-tuesday yeah thats true. It used to be good. Not so much anymore.

Yeah I do think its fun to a point. When people have mics. When you dont its a nightmare.

I think this is a really good point, at first it seems kinda annoying that you can't find anyone on the island but the challenge of it is part of the game and that's something that I've personally come to enjoy, especially when I'm playing with people I know. After playing with randoms that didn't have a mic for a while though, it was a little difficult at first, but after using the quick chat to get the point across the experience started to become pretty fluid and fun altogether.

  • I assume they did this for the same reason you can't just press "M" to pull up your map and see your location... they want you to communicate with your crew.

  • I don't think this will be a problem when you've got a solid crew that you regularly play with who've all chosen their exact appearance. You'll know what your friends look like, even when they're only a silhouette.
