Things i'd like to sea in release

  • I've already pre-ordered this after 3 hours play yesterday,...so I'm all in, and hope that this knocks it out of the park.
I had to update this due to more playtime and such since the original post.

    • Accepted, but not activated, voyage's remain in the inventory/replaced with a new one. Gold paid is gold paid of course and a scorned pirate is a sorry thing to witness.

    • Always have a 0 GP mission available - or when you don't have enough coin to buy a standard voyage at least.
(The above two are most probably something purely in the Beta, though I'd hate to run dry on coin and have to scour islands for random chests)

    • More shark models alongside Great whites; hammerheads, tiger etc...
(this speaks volumes for the immersion, less repetition in the scenery gives a better image of a diverse ocean full of life. It'd be cool is the shark races had different attack patterns aswel)

    • Diversity in enemies on land; boar's, giant spiders, gorilla's, puma's that strike from a shaking bush etc, cannibals, give the skeletons nets to trap players and stab em with harpoons.
(Much like the sharks - and rumoured evil mer-race - this would make islands more exciting due to more types of threats to consider)

    • Variation in sea dwellers ie. Squid that prey on larger ships due their more cumbersome nature. J*******h that appear in swarms, sometimes around sunken ships or cargo in the sea.
(I think this is partly in the making, though not on the suggested scale)

    • Boobytraps; If you hid a treasure, you'd also trap it.
(Image the bliss of finding treasure, only to hear a sudden ssssssst,... and see a red explosive nearby, barely sticking out of the earth... further in the network of tunnels, the rest of the crew hear a Boom, and witness the shake and rumbling as rocks and stalagmites begin to fall from the cavern ceiling)

    • Make Islands a bit more worth exploring - I've gotten naught from scouring islands for treasure chests, bar my ship being sunk because I was stationary for too long.
(This just needs a little hint somewhere, a smidgen of info on what tell-tale signs for secret non-map treasure locations are)

    • Updated AI in enemies, please - have them attack better/different, or attack in overwhelming numbers. Let them block the route to the ship creating an issue for the players or use other items than cannons to hinder players ie. a rushing skeleton with an explosive barrel.
(This one is still critical; it's is way to easy to jump on a rock, and have at 'em - give them a climb everywhere feature perhaps? or the use sinews to yank you towards them - perhaps even skeleton gorilla's!)

    • Variant in ship types; we have 1 for 1-2, and the man o war for 3-4. Perhaps variants in each - earned via faction rep perhaps? That specialise in either speed, armour or firepower but at the cost of others. Or an entirely unwieldy behemoth for 6 man teams
(This would be hard to balance of course but would add a lot to the game. As a make your legend - not a fan of this full-on approach - we will need manners to distinguish ourselves)

    • Each outpost has an NPC fleet (min 1 ships), these also travel between other outposts.

    • Roaming NPC fleets, some fleets that roam the open sea's via trade routes - some carry treasure, other's carry death.
(Alas, this shan't be so from release - read somewhere that there will be no NPC ships. I would have liked to see a triggerable Naval response to players who are heavily busy with PvP. This could then evolve into their ship being sunk and looted - making the Naval a target for other looking for an easy score)

    • Add the option to fish from the ship, and sharks that pull you in.
(Need I say more? you fish for fish that can be sold or eaten but sharks are drawn to this.. eventually, you might be pulled overboard - or you use this to bait sharks to collect hides, fins, teeth for exchange for reputation, gold and clothing?)

    • Add whistling to musical instruments (use gold to buy new tunes?)
(We need more music, more instruments are kinda confirmed, now just the music)

    • Add non-voyage farming methods ie. fishing, killing sharks drops resources ie. shark fins/teeth? Collecting pearls? Or handing in alot of banana's/supplies at outposts. This can be turned in to eventually unlock certain cosmetics alongside earning gold. (THIS WOULD BE GREAT FOR SOLO PLAYERS)
(Brought this up prior, but this would be a great mechanic that adds depth to the game in my eyes)

    • Way more cosmetics, also for ships of course.
(at least more than 10 outfits, and tonnes of ships variation)

    • More than 3 factions, each outpost has its own reputation?
(With the current 3 factions - which are all fetched variants - we need more options. Using alternate models would help - forcing your to travel elsewhere for this type, but also farming/culling/escort duty/guarding things)

  • i'd like to see in release :

    • one big island safe zone like hub community for park your ship/make deal with other player/exclusive activities...

    -a full customizable flag !!!!!!!!!!

-capture some special islands (with several conditions)

-possibility to open a chest and found a VERY RARE item (if you open the chest you can't sell it)

-random npc corsair ship ( best enemies of pirates) sink it and take GOLD or special item like rare major hat...

-parrot or little monkey for advert/secure your ship when you go away

-flame thrower nuclear bomb I JOKE

excuse my english i'm french !

  • I would love to see BIG British, French, Spainish etc ships out there in the world.

truly the end all enemy of the pirates. maybe even small fleets of 2 or 3 npc ships, that only the bold or TEAMed up pirates can take out.

really since when did pirates fight other pirates more then the oppressive city states that called them pirates in the first place.

  • I found myself nodding and thinking 'this these would be cool' going down the list of the OP's thoughts, and then I got to fishing ....

    !!!

    OMG we need this :D

I'd take breaks from crazy pirate action to just sit and play a silly fishing mini game on the dock.

Heck, I am in the anti safe zone camp for sure. But man, all of a sudden it would be cool to check out for a bit and fish in piece. :)

  • There are 101 things people will want that will never be a part of this game. In the spirit of adding crazy wishlist items for the heck of it...

    • Owning of facilities on land. Raw resource generation and then production facilities elsewhere. Kind of like 'Pirates of the Burning Sea' (old pirate pvp game).

Guilds would need to transport goods from A to B and protect it.

I can see that such a system is extremely unlikely to fit into the game SoT is seeking to be, but there ya have it none the less.

But yeah, that fishing thing, that ... needs to happen ;p

  • Things I would like to sea in release would be:

    • More tunes for the instruments while i'm out at sea!
    • Possible bounty system to put on other players with the gold you earn in game.
    • Npc ships sailing around with loot.
    • Global events that happen every 30 mins - hour like a kraken boss appears or ghostly ship with a deadman's chest that drops upon defeating. So beating the boss is a challenge in it self but now you have to get the chest back to an outpost with the risk of other pirates claiming your loot.

All in all I think this game is fantastic the way it is without the other factions to try out yet. I can't wait for the release and i don't know what i'm going to do till March.

  • I find it weird that you get bananas from barrels, i would like to see banana trees instead.
There should be more food like cheese, meat, veggies, eggs etc that gives you temporary buffs for example run speed, stamina and health boost.

  • I would like to see a hold the button option to pick up items like planks and cannon balls. Also on an island, either see crew member names from farther away or get a ping to find them. Without this it makes some treasures take forever to find because you don't want to split up.

  • Social area to play games, drink grog, party and put up recruiting/wanted posters.

  • @exo-waltz
I have to edit this, After playing a good deal solo and dual - i have no idea where all the lucky solo players are getting their loot - but solo is not a fun place for me..
Sign up with rando's i hear ye cry - sadly this isn't my forte and a rather last resort.

For the past three hours, I've been getting totaled by either a ship manned by 2 players - who are purely out for pvp and scouting the spawning islands (low pop server, you always start to the right) or one of two Man o Wars. I've closed the game and restarted to switch servers and i sseems to be bouncing between the two.
I've lost near 500gp in taking missions, only for my ship to be sank, before getting off the island, or sank approaching an outpost.

I understand the game has a certain ambiance/setting - and you shouldn't have to cater to everyone's needs - but to straighten things out, wouldn't it be better to have solo players generally located in the same server, and duo and more on seperate servers?

With this current state, duo's are rarely going to attack man o wars, as their pref' prey is solo's. Solo's are eventually going to quit, leaving the duo's up to themselves and man o wars... we need more alternatives to earning cash.

Or perhaps adding a danger sense if another ships enters the vicinity, giving you time to hoist anchor and make a break for it? Or NPC fleets?

  • I think it would be cool if you played a shanty with your crew, it provided the crew with a morale boost, like.. a slightly increased health pool or something.

  • @rothsper

I could this happening in Skull and Bones, less management in raw production but PvP matches would net rewards for your own ship construction if you were able to sink a cargo vessel, scoop the loot and break for open water whiles batteling players trying to protect these assets.

It is more of game type than asset protection but still, a nice twist to TDM.

  • @cwarrick66 Mon o wars already are at an advantage, giving them more HP would kill the playerbase.

  • @gracey-field
I like this, have it server wide; the persons who scutteled you - you remember their scarred viasage as clear as the bottom of your tankard - are now wanted. This happens only after they have sunk x ships without losing their own - and should balance it out.
Other players see the PvP'rs status because the flag changes, whereas the infractees have no clue. So from a far distance you are aware of their identity.

Perhaps youv'e coin to spare or not, either way, they are meddeling in the business of the Gold Hoarders, and business was good, so they'll pay a cash reward for those that the sink the ship, collect their 'cursed' flag, and return it as proof.

  • @gangbangshee

    I like these

    • possibility to open a chest and found a VERY RARE item (if you open the chest you can't sell it)
That some chests net a reward upon finding it for the entire party? that would be nice, but losing out gold would ruin the pvp element.

-random npc corsair ship ( best enemies of pirates) sink it and take GOLD or special item like rare major hat...
This would be great, NPC ships or some fleets that roam PvP heavy area's.

-parrot or little monkey for advert/secure your ship when you go away
Buy it with gold, and it squawks from your shoulder when another ship enters a x vicinity.... the monkey could be taught to fire the canon upon line of sight with an enemy ship?

  • @exo-waltz i wasn't talking about the ships i meant the players themselves. make them a little more survivable.

  • @mongogoomoo
I like this idea...more food choices with subtle perks/benefits. Also, love to have a fishing mechanic...can imagine sitting on the dock at sunrise fishing and pulling up an old worn boot, like in Fable, and finding some coin inside. Also, would like to see clams with the possibility of pearls inside...in general, more collection, exploration, discovery items.

  • @exo-waltz how about an aption of 2nd or 3rd person view. We could see our pirates designs and appreciated more. Also pirate skins with sea life designs.

  • First post I think, Hi!

Wouldn't mind being able to drunk- fight my mateys on our own ship deck with wooden swords that knock you out at zero helath vs kill. Some kind of betting game for this as well, and of course Nine Men's Morris.

  • I had to update this due to more playtime and such.

    • Accepted, but not activated, voyage's remain in the inventory/replaced with a new one. Gold paid is gold paid of course and a scorned pirate is a sorry thing to witness.

  • @eddy-panda-2000 I'd definitely like more options to look at my merry sea scourge. Perhaps when playing an instrument?

  • @snipp3t Nice,... this could be a great pub event though.

  • I like the ideas coming up on this thread, I have a few myself.

    • The Weapon Wheel (Instead of mashing Y)
    • Customizable Voting Daggers, Cannons
    • Map/Riddle in a bottle
    • 1 man sloop (Will be making thread on ideas.)
    • 8-man Frigate
    • Violin/Fiddle, Drum, Spoon, Coconuts, Trumpet, Maracas
    • Traps like Snares/Bear-Traps, Spike Pits, Poison Darts, Trip-wire TNT
    • Large Land "Bosses" like Giant Boar, Crab, Panther, Cannibal/Skelly Horde
    • Large Sea "Bosses" like Squid, Great White Shark, Sea Serpents
    • Huntable land animals like Boar, Panther, Monkey, Parrot, Crab, Crocodile
    • Fishable/Huntable sea animals like J*******h, Swordfish, Whales, Tuna, Piranhas
    • Edibles like pineapple, orange, rum, fish meat, red meat, eggs, water, coconuts
    • Tools like grapple hook, dagger, fusebox/explosive trigger
    • Ability to trigger friendly races
    • Ability to recruit other pirates that are solo or part of another crew
    • Ability to "Mutiny" as alternative to Brig where you're dropped on the nearest isle.
    • Ability to Post Bounties of ship and/or pirate description
    • Ability to join "Royal Navy" to hunt bounties and restore peace
    • Buyable/Sellable Traders NPC for consumables/edibles
    • Special Merchant trading items like Sugar, Rum, Spice, Silk, or Silver
    • Player Faction/Crew Owned Ships
    • Crews of the damned (AI Skelly/Ghost Ships)
  • @gangbangshee
I just had to come back to this,... the Molotov idea
A small fire of course with minor effect ie AoE and DoT damage, and if it isn't raining then you'll need to scoop water to drench it before you become a beacon or wait for it to burn itself out.

Again the parrot would be amazing, perhaps variants - one is trained in spotting ship-like images in the distance whereas another can smell gold.

The monkey could be placed as an early detecting warning system for when youvé disembarked. You aim the cannon, and set him next to it - he sees an approaching enemy ship...launches himself on the island and then begins path finding his way to you.

  • NPC ships naval and trade.

  • @ch3wiie said in Things i'd like to sea in release:

I like the ideas coming up on this thread, I have a few myself.

    • The Weapon Wheel (Instead of mashing Y)
With RB for generic items and LB for quests I guess the only option would be holding Y to bring up a wheel, and navigate with RS to the weapon and release to equip.
    • Customizable Voting Daggers, Cannons
This has to be in the works, they would be mad if this isn't in the game. We might see it as a DLC pack that you unlock access to it though - which would be very bad (unless we are talking 1,- and that they pump alotta content in from what we have seen in the beta)
    • Map/Riddle in a bottle
      Oh lord,.. yes
washed up on beaches or bobbing in the ocean. You catch a glimpse of the sun reflection at a certain distance. Perhaps even find some lodged in a skeleton's animated remains.
    • 1 man sloop (Will be making thread on ideas.)
Been thinking about this aswel; a faster, nimbler craft - but oh so fragile and limited cargo
    • 8-man Frigate
I was thinking 6,.. but skipping 6 to 8 would be fantastic and preferred over6 but only if it is a true hell to steer.
    • Violin/Fiddle, Drum, Spoon, Coconuts, Trumpet, Maracas
If they put coconuts in, I want the 'Brave Sir Robin' shanty aswel
    • Traps like Snares/Bear-Traps, Spike Pits, Poison Darts, Trip-wire TNT
Generated Traps on treasure, yes... but laying them down for others would be very hard to work.
Perhaps rigging TNT barrels with rope and rock to make mines? or trip mines - either way though I'd put a timer on this to prevent congestion of 100's of traps.
    • Large Land "Bosses" like Giant Boar, Crab, Panther, Cannibal/Skelly Horde
Yes, and not just on big islands either - thrugh large, swarms of carnivorous, birds would also be cool.
    • Large Sea "Bosses" like Squid, Great White Shark, Sea Serpents
yes,.. though perhaps tied into a trigger ie Raid, or timed world event perhaps?
    • Huntable land animals like Boar, Panther, Monkey, Parrot, Crab, Crocodile
Yes, and the meat, skins, and other parts can be turned in for reputation, and gold, for unlocking certain outfits
    • Fishable/Huntable sea animals like J*******h, Swordfish, Whales, Tuna, Piranhas
Yes, and the meat, skins, and other parts can be turned in for reputation, and gold, for unlocking certain outfits
    • Edibles like pineapple, orange, rum, fish meat, red meat, eggs, water, coconuts
More food variants, even if they heal the same, would be nice. Cracking open a coconut or eating an orange (peel and all) would add a small nuance.
Also, eating too many oranges would change the skin hue of your character temporarily.
    • Tools like grapple hook, dagger, fusebox/explosive trigger
There are rumours about a harpoon gun, this might be used as a grappel whereas the Boarding axe may allow you to board ships from anywhere other than via air or ladder.
    • Ability to trigger friendly races
      This,... yes... just yes
      Perhaps even a wager system?
    • Ability to recruit other pirates that are solo or part of another crew
merging games would be nice, but so far every player - bar 1 event - I have encountered has been hostile.
    • Ability to "Mutiny" as alternative to Brig where you're dropped on the nearest isle.
Hmm,.. this might ruin the pick n play element -
How'd you get off the island - or do you spawn with a ship? are you then also booted from the party and spawn thus in a new server?
    • Ability to Post Bounties of ship and/or pirate description
I was hoping for an trigger NPC naval ship that hunts down PvP heavy players (if they are very good, then they must be lacking a challenge, right?)
Or all others see a glow of some kind around the flag, alerting them to their true nature, but the PvP'rs themselves do not.
    • Ability to join "Royal Navy" to hunt bounties and restore peace
      A new faction,...yes
A better idea than the NPC spawn because you'd get a rough estimate of - target last sighted in region x and a timer
    • Buyable/Sellable Traders NPC for consumables/edibles
    • Special Merchant trading items like Sugar, Rum, Spice, Silk, or Silver
Shark and animal parts, Pearls etc, more world farmable items without voyages that can be handed in for reputation, gold, and unlocking outfits.
    • Player Faction/Crew Owned Ships
I've heard that ships will come with a great range of customisation option. How though, remains a mystery.
    • Crews of the damned (AI Skelly/Ghost Ships)
Sadly, I heard that there will be no npc/ai ships - though if it was event bound - that would be cool. You get a cursed skull, and now the undead crew has raised their ship and are in pursuit.
  • @rothsper
The fishing would be awesome, just to hear a splash and then via teamspeak 'SHARK!'

I'm also a fan of no safe zone, we're pirates after all

  • @exo-waltz
The "Brave Sir Robin" or just taking inspiration from Monty Python was what I was going for with the coconuts.
I was imagining for the majority of the "Bosses" and "Crews of the Damned" would be public events requiring multiple crews to cooperate to take them down.

The Mutiny option gives a few options for the Marooned Pirate:

    • Back Out and find a new crew in the lobby
    • Be creative, find a map/riddle, make a signal, Rig some traps
    • Test your athleticism/ability to not be shark bait and swim to the next island
    • Attempt to join a passing by crew with the same means you would try to release yourself from the brig.
    • Hide, then steal another players ship as they come ashore for treasure.
