  • @qrikshank Ahoy there!

Good luck on your maiden voyage... The best advice I can give you is go out there and have some fun on the seas!

Also, luckily for you, our very own @Armament-Jay has come up with a video for 7 things you need to know about the beta too just incase.

Good luck matey! Hope to see you out on those high seas soon....

  • @qrikshank this is simply from a game play prospective and not really a PVP prospective. But just have fun, explore a lot, and try not to do very many quests. If the beta is anything like what the Alpha was, the quests will start to get extremely old fast and feel very grindy. I personally found that exploring was much more rewarding, as far as the overall experience goes. Sure, its not very rewarding for the loot aspect of it, but I hope that will change for the beta and we will be able to acquire/find rewards out in the world.

Friends do help make the experience more interesting, but you will certainly want to set yourself some personal goals to keep the experience fresh for you. Again, even playing with a group can start to feel a bit grindy after a while, especially if you are paired with 3 randoms that don't really communicate or share the same desire to play the game as you do.

  • Thanks for the advice and the link. My question is less about the beta and more about how to identify to others that you mean no harm before being blasted to bits by a blunderbuss. I also don't want to mistakenly dispatch someone who has no intention of doing me harm.

I've watched a lot of the videos and understand that in game communication is possible and that emotes introduced may address some of this as well. But if you were to encounter me in game, with me approaching your vessel in a ship of my own, what measures can I take to let you know that 'I come in peace'?

  • @qrikshank I find using the text/voice chat and a mixture of playing your favourite shanty on the hurdy-gurdy is a sign you come in peace. If some pirates don't understand that, move on and find ones that do :) There are some good pirates out there - but remember this is the Sea of Thieves.

  • @musicmee And dont forget the flashing light, iirc.

  • @Musicmee Thanks for the shout out!!

@Qrikshank I second this bit of advice strongly:

Whenever I've played in the past, this was a great way to establish whether or not you were sailing alongside friendly pirates!
