Destiny 2 has three, The Division has four, and Elder Scrolls Online has eight.
Soooo, how many save slots / pirate characters will SoT allow us?
As of yet there had been no proof for a second pirate slot, I believe they’ll only allow one slot or pirate variations, but does not mean they will not add a second slot to the full game, as a reward possibly, or through in game or real money. As of yet I think there will only be one slot available but who’s to say!!
Dont think there will be, or not much has been known about it at least.
Not sure if it would be needed here too, its not like you need a seperate char to try a different "skill" route or something, you can do everything on one character and there is no actual skill points to choose from or limits etc.
The option would always be nice for people that want it tho :D
I would imagine it would only be one, but with a lot of freedom to change your character whenever you like. All the "upgrades" are going to be cosmetic or reputation/titles so as long as we are able to switch them around (which it seems we can easily at the clothing chest or whatever) there really wouldn't be as much need for separate save slots.
I don't see why this game would need additional character slots. You want to reset your trading company reputation?
I can see the dress-up box allowing multiple outfit slots to save several outfits for quick access...
Hair style and color I see being easily changed at an outpost; even physical appearance. With Rare's stance on removing barriers, I think changing genders would be an option, too.
As an alt-junky, I certainly like additional character slots, but as others have mentioned, I don't think it would be practically useful in this game as there are no classes--no need for alts. There is reputation among the factions to consider, but as there's no 'level cap', there's nothing stopping anyone from gaining full faction rep for every faction (I think?--though I feel I may be wrong in this).
In any case, I have two XBox accounts so I could have multiple characters if needed. :D
I'll also be playing on the PC, but I don't know if your character will be the same on both platforms -- it is the same account.
@void-presence This is a Play Anywhere title so going from PC to Xbox and vice versa, would allow you to play the same character.
The idea of different slots emerged mainly from MMORPGs, where you had different classes with different skillsets and a progression system, since there won't be such things in SoT you don't necessarily need multiple slots, but it wouldn't be a disadvantage either, specially when it comes to long-term motivation. You could start multiple pirate careers.
This is an interesting idea! I like the idea of having different characters I can slip into like a pair of shoes to fit my mood. In other games, this does cause a lot of smurf accounts I am unsure how that would play into this game.

All they need to do is have a set # of loadout slots that will store your clothing + equipment setups, so you can quickly apply different sets. Multiple pirate slots aren't needed, because who wants to re-grind the low reputation voyages again?
It's common for friends to pickup the game months later, and enjoyable to go back and play through it again with them with a fresh character. Very common.

@greylock3491 You don't need a different character to do that in Sea of Thieves
Right now it doesn't appear so, but they haven't revealed everything yet so who knows?
As has been said, there are no skill/class tracks in this game, so save slots seem unnecessary.
Upon reflection, though, other slots may help with the roleplaying immersion. Let's say I play a pirate for hours, progressing with the guilds. Then I decide I want to completely change my appearance, my ship, etc. But this might seem weird, since that pirate, at least in my head, didn't earn that progression. It would be nice to start fresh with one pirate but keep the other.
Still, the game will work just fine if this doesn't happen.

Yeah, until the final game comes out we won't know, but I think it's hard to imagine there is NO progression in the game at all.
I mean a "pirate sandbox" is NOT worth $60 imho.
@greylock3491 You can progress with the outpost companies, who provide gold and titles the more you work for them. But there is no stat progression.
