Is grog useful?

  • It needs to have a positive benefit of course make your vision blurry and hard to aim when you get increasingly drunk... but you should get a benefit like increased damage per swing of your cutlass or something..... maybe temporary increased maximum health perhaps...

The reason it needs positive benefits is if it does not then few will want to drink spoiling that epic part of being a pirate.....

  • If you hold a bucket in your hands while you are wasted, you will eventually puke into it! You can then throw the vomit on enemies, scallywags, or anyone else you don't agree with. This is quite useful already in my opinion! :P

  • @ssjvegeta420 Oh don't worry, grog drinking occurs on the regular... Though, I think a benefit should be "beer goggles"...lol

  • @thorhammer3 if there are no positive effects few will partake ... remember the cigarettes from metal gear solid? Hardly anyone used them seriously

  • @ssjvegeta420 I like the idea of the drunken power buff, don't get me wrong.
But, from my experience, grog has it's screen time... Celebrations, for laughs, for the soul purpose of staggering around like a baboon...lol

  • @ssjvegeta420 this is a game . It must have a functional mechanic.... i think it would be cool to have some quests you can ONLY COMPLETE DRUNK THE WHOLE WAY

  • @ssjvegeta420 That would be a fun challenge!

It is useful, you can inhibit someones view which can be a huge disadvantage to them when fighting.

  • One of the first things I did in the alpha was drinking some grogs. When I puked all over the tavern two guys came in and a gunfight ensued as I did not have my headset connected and thus couldn't yield. While I was staggering around and shooting I missed them just as much as they missed me but I bet the gunfight, which I eventually lost, wouldn't carry on as long as it did if I were sober since I wouldn't have dodged the bullets that easily. ;)

  • I don't think grog needs to give a temp buff. That's kinda like saying every easter egg needs to give a reward for finding it. Just let's the grog stay as fun as it is. I know I and my credit in the alpha, got plastered on a regular basis.

  • Buffs and whatnot aren't really in the nature of the game tbh.

  • Unfortunately “buffs” or “benefits” from drinking grogg will very likely not be in the game due to rating concerns. The game is aimed to be rated 12-13 and up which means that you cannot incentivize the consumption of drugs (yes alcohol is considered a drug, it’s just a legal one).

  • Can't we just enjoy grog for being grog? It adds hilarity and fun

  • @ssjvegeta420 me thinks you should invest your time in a chest of a thousand grogs lol or see how one effects a player if anything you should consider using it as a silly challenge for yourself :) you can have alot of fun with it and it does have a purpose

  • @ssjvegeta420 or you bleed quicker because your blood is thinner xD. Maybe not those you mentioned because it wouldn't go with the play style of SoT. You might be on to something. Maybe it can widen your field of view to you can be in the crows nest and see more of the ocean to spot enemies..??

  • Is it not the same as the instruments or dance emotes from various other games. People use this stuff for the "just for fun" factor ie hiding in the crows nest of an enemy ship and starting the herdigerdi every now and then just to watch the crew scatter.
