Coexistence PVP and PVE

  • This idea is 100% likely to plop like my others, but here it goes.

A system where PVP and PVE players can coexist.

Like PVE Players can affect/ drop prices for PVP items depending how much treasure they bring in and if they continuously contribute it to one Outpost. Ex. PVE players keep bringing in treasure to Port Merrik until the PVP item prices are lowered to the max allowed, then if the PVE chooses to go to another Outpost and repeat the process.

There can even be escort missions where PVP players team up with PVE to protect them from other PVP players instead of skeleton ships while doing Smuggler's Route with the value of the cargo being higher than if it was just PVE.

PVP players would not be able to damage PVE players and vice versa, with PVE only needing to worry about NPC enemies For Burning Blade they can wipe out the NPC enemies but can't take control of the ship unless they agree to automatically switch to PVP. If PVE want to switch to PVE or PVP to PVE they would only be able to do so after a great length of time to prevent misuse of the system.

How would a PvEr gain any experience and get better at the game for themselves, if they're always being reliant on another crew to help escort them?

  • A system where PVP and PVE players can coexist

Well the game is built on pvpve….it already does. It’s the players who don’t want them too.

  • @europa4033 As mentioned they can switch between the two after a certain length of time.

  • @littletex1220 This will not work for the simple fact that you are making different crews depend upon each other, and in SOT that just means you are setting up the perfect scenario for betrayal. Stabbing allies in the back is the favorite pastime for many players.

@europa4033 As mentioned they can switch between the two after a certain length of time.

Except, PvPers don't need or require help from PvErs to kill mobs. In this game, PvE is actually quite easy, since other players are the threat here. That's the beauty of this game-- you can choose to PvPvE all at the same time, without needing to "switch", or rely on other players to play the game for you. And again, how would players get better at the game itself, if they always relied on other players to do things for them?

  • @metal-ravage Isn't that the same for Open Crew though too? As for betrayal, they wouldn't be able to harm their PVE allies and betraying PVP teammates would be reportable. All team participants would need to be alliance first.

  • @europa4033 Then that would be their choice if they choose to stay PVE and that should be fine if they choose to, plus they still have PVE enemies to face. Never assume that just because something comes easy for some that it also comes easy for others, practice doesn't always make perfect. In this PVErs are actually helping the PVPers by bringing in loot to lower PVP item cost.

  • @burnbacon In Fallout 76 PVP players coexist with PVE without those not wanting to PVP or can't, not having to be involved in PVP, everyone can enjoy the game and have fun the way they want to instead of being forced to fit a mold or walk away from a game because they can't fit.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
