We all love our pets but we all have our issues with them, and I have seen more than a few pirates say they would use pets more if...
We had the ability to control pet specific volume. Some pets, dogs especially, are LOUD. They make a pretty loud sound but also they bark and howl a lot. I love having my dog out, but in a game designed around sound queues for almost everything, it makes me not want to use it ever.
Pets stayed where you placed them. Pets will very often teleport around your boat. If you place it somewhere it will do an animation, and then decide to go elsewhere, or if you move too far from where you placed them, they start to follow you. These aren't entirely bad on their own, but if you have a pet out and suddenly need to fight, the pet very often gets in the way of things because:
We need a toggle for ability to interact with pets. If I put my bird on the helm, there is a very real chance of me accidentally grabbing my bird when I run to helm to try to drive again, which means I have to put it down before I can try again, wasting time. The same is true about the spots next to the sail controls as well. Either a system where we can disable pet interactions like trinket interactions, or a priority based system where it knows we would likely want to use helm first and would therefore make helm more likely to show up as a prompt rather than pick up pet.
