Remember the quest board? That fun feature where players could create their own treasure maps for others to follow?
It's a great idea, but there's a major flaw.
The only reward for the map poster is reputation and renown when someone digs up their treasure. Why bother going to the outpost to post a map when you could just sell the item for gold? The only reason to bury treasure would be if it's super low tier, which isn’t worth the time for the person digging it up.
The solution? Treasure in the quest board pool should "prestige" over time. Every 30 minutes, the treasure item moves up one tier. For example, if someone buries and posts a foul bounty skull, after an hour, it could become a hateful bounty skull when dug up. Additionally, map posters should receive 50% of the treasure's value when sold. This system creates a dynamic where players might bury low-tier trinkets, post them on the map board, and let them "cook" under the sand. By the time someone digs them up, the poster’s 50% share would be worth more than the original item. To clarify, the crew retrieving the treasure still gets 100%.
