Consideration for the Introduction of a Tall Tale based on the RLS Novel Treasure Island.

  • Hi, suggestions, for the developers, I'll try here, if that's ok.

I have really enjoyed the Tall Tale campaigns, one reason is because they can keep you away from the verbal abuse, you constantly have to put up with from the PVP's, I've never been called a [Mod edit] so many times in one day, as I have been on this game and I've been a wow player for 20 plus years, where ganking new players became a popular past time, many moons ago.

Anyway, to my point, I was wondering if it was possible to offer my services, for free to help develop a Treasure island themed tall tale or world event. You have all the mechanics and most of the visual assets already in the game, I think it's currently an opportunity missed, but in saying that, this may have come up before in discussions, being a very new and green player, I have no idea if that is the case. I suspect, in all probability, you may have already considered this, in fact it may have been like it was for me, the inspiration or part of the spark that lit the flame for Sea of Thieves for some of your staff.

I'm unemployed and have the time and patience to put together a framework/feasibility study for you to least examine if you feel this may be worthwhile. I understand that any game, or game module, add on etc., Which includes existing published works, public or otherwise can turn pricy, due to possible copyrights regarding content. However, seeing the likes of Blind Pew, Cpt Billy Bones, Long John Silver, Jim Hawkins, George Merry, Capt Flint, Ben Gunn, Squire Trelawny etc, with venues like the Admiral Benbow, Hispaniola, Treasure island, the stockade, spy glass hill to name but a few, would be great to see in this game. The rewards and complexity could be ramped up to address some of the issues raised in previous Tall Tales by gamers and content creators. If we can have an informal discussion, no fees attached, just a passion project, to examine the feasibility to determine if it would be a worthwhile investment, drop me an email.

On another point, that you may have already considered, safe zones or non-combat status for players who love the game but, struggle with PVP element, like me, I struggle with the constant verbal abuse, intimidation. tactics and entitlement that unfortunately a significant number of players have. This forces, many new players to leave the game, which indirectly affects your bottom line due to reduced micro transactions, Safer seas is a great addition, however, to limit that route for reaching legendary, to 25, forcing players back into environment where they may feel, they are nothing but cannon fodder for the PVP player base, just to privide something for them to kill on a server which is counterproductive and smells of fattening the cow before its led to the slaughter.

Many MMORPG's have both PVP and PVE paths available, WOW found out the hard way, losing millions in revenue, due to a player exodus because of the toxic game play of others, leading them eventually to provide PVE only servers, Battle grounds etc, now there is very little if any forced PVP, that is not predetermined, Ganking has disappeared, and it's become a lot more social place to be. Havens, in Sea of thieves should be exactly that, not places to attack players for no other reason than to provide a cheap kill thrill for a gamer and steal the loot of others.

This is a Pirate game first and foremost and I get that, but that is not an excuse for toxic, abusive, offensive behavior from players, which they often use to justify their attitude and treatment other players, that's a choice they make...Being called Monkey Boy. Nier.... F*Head etc, the list goes on, by what sound like NZ or Australian Male Players in their late teens or early twenty's is difficult to deal with for me personally.

I'd add that I'm not perfect either and I have to make some adjustments to the way I talk or address other players, when things are becoming stressful.

This game has so much potential, it's beautiful, challenging, rewarding and on occasion frustrating as hell. But I love the game...

  • I second this! "Treasure Island" is the reason we have books, movies and games about pirates. Definitely it's worth bringing Long John Silver in SOT.

  • No pesky copyright issues, either. That stuff's in the public domain.

  • While I understand your frustration with PvPvE, I truly believe that safe zones are not the right answer. I think there are other ways to achieve a less violent atmosphere on the seas, particularly by introducing proper trading mechanics where crews of different Emissaries can acquire goods they wouldn't be able to normally get by themselves. Some of these goods would have no value if they were acquired by force. In order to do this, though, Rare would have to implement a way to track a trade between crews. It's not that hard! We already have the giving mechanic where an item can switch hands without ever touching the ground.

As for the storytelling, not my thing, but good luck with encouraging Rare to do anything other than what they want to do.

To add a further note, a little disappointed I didn't even get an email asking details of what my proposal would be from RARE, but i guess i'm a very small apple in a rather big barrel, the offer still stands<
I saw part of a review for a recent podcast where they were talking about new content, different ships for example being added, be cool to have a closed in sloop, rather than the open back version at the
moment, but i guess they would all have similar stats as others.

I guess we'll have to see what they are coming up with.
