Deeper ship customization (Captaincy 2)

  • For a long time, every player-controlled ship in Sea of Thieves has had the same interior layout and vibe. While that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it could be improved with more customization options. To clarify, I’m not suggesting a shipbuilder—that would be a disaster. Instead, it would be great if different parts of the ship’s interior had more detailed customization options beyond just changing shelf items. Adding features beyond trinkets, without giving any real advantage, would make captaincy more engaging and customization more meaningful. Some changes could even add or remove trinket spots, making choices more interesting.

To keep things brief, I’ll focus on my personal Wishlist for the sloop, then briefly list other possibilities across the 3 ship types.

First, a captain's stool fixed in front of the captain's table. Everyone places movable stools there; making it an optional permanent fixture would be great.

Second, Captain's Curtains could optionally surround the three open walls around the map table.

Back to the captain's table—the weird frontal window could optionally be replaced with a full wall for hanging an extra trinket.

Moving below deck, let’s talk about the bed. It should optionally be moved deeper into the back of the ship, creating a larger bedroom. Perhaps the new in-wall bed could have a movable curtain? And please, let bunk beds be an option instead of just a shelf and wall trinket!

And finally, this concept could apply to any ship type, but let’s change the beverage in the grog barrel. Many of us would appreciate having near-grog as an option.

As you can imagine, this is the beginning of a long list of possible "augments" for every ship type.
    (NOT UPGRADES, JUST CHANGES)

you could replace the 6 trinket bookshelf with a
    Piano
    Music Box
    Terrarium
    Aquarium
Or Replace areas filled with useless barrels with
    Hammocks,
    bunk beds
    chairs
    tables
    a metal hearth
fill your galleon with this stuff-make it real cozy!

Yeah but that block a few feet. With a stool at least you can move it and it more for role playing

  • The stool would block movement pathing/get in the way, making it worse to fight on your ship. The curtains on the side would provide a tangible benefit by making it harder to see where you are on the boat. Even if you can shoot through them, you are worse off than if they aren't there. That wall would also add gameplay benefits. It would be another thing to block sight lines and it could potentially block bullets too, making it harder to hit you while you repair, again, providing a tangible gameplay benefit. The bed would be moved where into the ship? There is no space for it. A bunk bed would allow 2 players to heal at once. I know sleep healing isn't very common, it's a near useless function, but having 2 beds means 2 people can use it at once. Grog is already alcohol adjacent. Grog is purely for roleplay purposes anyways, what would a "different liquid" do different? It's just a "drunk" effect.

A piano would be too big. We should already have music box trinkets. Of what? Lizards? There aren't very many animals in the game. Aquarium would probably bee too graphics intensive, the servers already struggle enough.

If you replace the barrels you lose a lot of hiding spots when tucking. We don't need more beds on the ships. Also would be unfair to smaller ships for larger ones to have more. Why? Why? Fire on the boat, lets see how that goes. Make it cozy and tactically advantageous...
