Economy

  • In my opinion, the game’s economy has some issues right now.

The Chest of Legend used to be extremely valuable — people would steal it, and naval battles were fought over it. But with the introduction of new loot, it has started to lose its importance. (The same applies to other older treasures.)
    For example:
    Chest of legend - 8.600~11.000
    Wrathful King's Bounty Skull - 5.100
    The golden rum/exquisite paintings - 10.000
    Chest Of Fortune - 20.000
    Orb of Secrets - 20.000
Skull of siren song - 50.000
Smugglers Heist Target Painting - 175.000

Now I can just kill two skeleton captains or loot a sunken ship and earn the same amount of money.

  • Agreed, a rebalance of loot item prices should definetly be on the cards. Especially the amount of high-level loot that can be easily acquired.

Earning doublons should also be looked at, or the prices of doubloon cosmetics. Right now it'd take me about 100k doubloons to purchase all of them

  • Heck you can do a few fortresses, Camps and shrines now and earn millions within hours or so. Depending how fast you are. Very short

Or do deeds and earn 3000 gold by eating all fruit types.

  • @doeshes

The economy's been broken for years now. Just an effect of Rare wanting to cater to new/casual players with only 1-2 hours of time to play.

  • Why would you ever take a reapers bounty when you can take gold paintings off a beach and get the same amount of money, with 6 times as many sell locations, and no mark on the map telling everyone where you are. The new loot table ruins the economy pretty bad.

  • Gold isn't everything, it's glory that matters...
Joking aside, it's true that if you look at season 11 onwards, there has been a change in the game's economy.
In reality, it's not a problem if... we had something to spend all the gold we accumulate on. Because let's be honest, the latest cosmetics at the forefront are worthless, so many of us are overflowing with gold (for example, I bought absolutely everything and still have 360 million gold).
As for the FAMOUS Athena chest, it lost all its value a long time ago (which makes you wonder why there are still people who insist on stealing them LOL).

  • The value of the Chest of Legends was it was the only way to get significant Athena rep, which was attached to cosmetics, commendations, and titles. I think the disconnect is there. Gold is really just a vehicle to get cosmetics. Rare has long placed too much value on gold. I don't think the economy can ever truly be fixed, but making events and treasure that is tied to unique cosmetics, commendations, and titles, and making those goals difficult, is the only way to make it valuable again. Do you really think anyone cares about a 175k painting? How many do I have to turn in, 5? Once those comms are completed, that voyage will go the way of the Siren Song.

As for doubloons, who knows. Rare really missed the boat when they didn't make doubloons the only currency for all the ship trinkets, captained ships, etc. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't even look at my doubloon total anymore. I just know I have more than I can ever spend, but there's nothing to spend it on.

  • No new cosmetic means that there is nothing to spend gold on and that means it is worthless. There is no economy here.

    It's bromend beyond repair.

  • AND OVER AT THE PIRATE EMPORIUM
