Suggestions for New Enemies

  • Vanquishing the same baddies can get boring after doing it over and over again. Perhaps it is time to add some variety.

Shield Skeleton. Skeleton holding a piece of shipwreck as a shield. PCs cannot shoot through it, but they can hack it apart with a sword or shoot around it.

Rot Skeleton. It emits a foul miasma around it causing the PC to begin vomiting while near it, maybe even after it is defeated?

Also, make the skeletons without weapons able to pick up dropped kegs and become keg skeletons.

Banshee. Phantom with wild hair that screams (like siren skull) and maybe teleports more than the other ghosts.

Grapple Siren. A siren that grabs onto you and tries to pull you further under the water.

    New Melee Weapon: Boarding Axes
Perhaps they hit heavier than a cutlass, but they cannot block as well.

New Improvised Weapon: PC can pick up a snake and throw it at another creature. The snake will attack the one who picks it up if they are holding it long enough, like in a basket, but if it hits another creature, it will hit them.

After awhile any new enemies will become boring though.

Shield Skeleton. Skeleton holding a piece of shipwreck as a shield.

Similar to how Gold skeletons are, having to use other means to hurt them, Like Fire...

Rot Skeleton. It emits a foul miasma around it causing the PC to begin vomiting while near it, maybe even after it is defeated?

    Funny.

Banshee. Phantom with wild hair that screams

    xD

Grapple Siren. A siren that grabs onto you and tries to pull you further under the water.

Players already hate going into the water out of fear....

  • Shield skeleton is just a blocking sword skeleton.

Would be cool if skeletons could pick up kegs they walk over.

Phantoms are already annoying, don't want a more annoying one.

No, just no. Any enemy with a grapple would be annoying. If you have no bullets and it pulls you in, you are just going to die and you don't get a say in it. That's bad game design.

As long as it can't do damage to the ship, maybe. Boils down to being a heavy sword basically.

Poison blow darts are what you want.

The idea is options and variety. Yes, some of these are like other things in the game or have effects that already exist. That makes it easier to implement and offers variety at the same time.

I see what you mean about the grapple. My idea is that it would not be an instant death as you are dragged down to the depths, just dragged a bit farther down, maybe get disoriented a bit, like when the kraken drags you under the water but less extreme. I probably should have explained that better.

I suppose the phantoms are annoying to some people. I don't think they are. I find a teleporting enemy interesting.

As it comes to the snake. No, poison blow darts is not what I want. Improvised weapons make the game more interesting because they add the unexpected to the combat, like a keg exploding during a fight. It's fun. It's interesting. I don't want all combat to look the same and come down to the science of it. I want the game to create stories I tell my shipmates days later when we're sailing across the sea to go make more.
