Feedback on cheating – solo feels much better, duo still rough

  • Ahoy,
I wanted to share my recent experience with cheaters in Sea of Thieves.

Before, I was running into cheaters almost every day. But over the past week, while playing solo, I didn’t meet a single one. That felt like a huge improvement and I really appreciate the work being done to make the seas fairer.

After that, I played some duo sessions and ran into cheaters four times (three times it was the same group). It’s hard to prove with clear evidence since names don’t always show when they use things like quickswap or air control, and some others seemed to use aimbot or magic bucket. Still, the difference was clear — solos felt clean, duos less so.

It might just be luck on my part, or maybe cheaters prefer crew modes over solo, but they’re definitely still around. That said, I really want to highlight how much better solo felt, and I think that progress is worth noticing.

    Thanks for reading,
    Geo DMT

Yeah there's no point for cheaters going solo since they know they'll be banned before gold curse. Duos and upwards is the key, since they carry friends, their main account, and have customers pay them real money for levels all the while blending in. Record and report is all we can really do.

  • @europa4033 There's no point in reporting cheaters anyways since they can just unlink their account and relink a new one and have the game running again in minutes. I've seen it happen mid match in duos, where a cheater is banned mid match, but comes back on another account before I can sink them. Sometimes 2 minutes, maybe less.

I don't think Rare has anything to do with the improvement lol, I think school just started again. It's not like anything has been done differently to stop cheaters/patch the cheats, they just haven't been playing as much.

  • Have to be honest, I play in Asia servers (Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan) and the number of cheaters are insane. I dived solo hourglass last night at 4am thinking probably nobody would be matchmaking, and I get matched up against a cheater... There are instances where I would play Solo sloop, boom cheater; fine, I'll play duo then, boom cheater all the way up to galleon. I personally find it really hard to get a good streak going on because every few fights someone would already have their wheel turned at the start of match and flying in the sky. I don't think there is any point sending reports as it requires to capture footage, write up an essay how opponent is cheating blablabla while cheaters just create an alt account. I feel like I'm spending more effort to send in reports than it is for the cheaters to create subs.

Sorry for the whining, doesn't really help, but I hope Rare could see me cry and hopefully notice how many ridiculous the cheating issue is in Asia hourglass.

  • As long as Rare doesn't force buying the full game for each new account, cheating will always be an issue.
