Make the Community Great Again

  • I am not calling anybody out, but I do see a lot of people just spouting wrong information and overall just making excuses for whatever they don’t understand about the game. I get that they are newer and less experienced, but it’s still aggravating to see some people complain about stuff that makes it seem like they are obviously coping with a loss.

I think the community needs a complete re-haul and lose this mentality that Rare is the issue behind EVERYTHING. Pirates steal, pillage, ruin, kill, and sink, not dance around in a circle singing songs. It’s the Sea of Thieves, not the Sea of Friends; If you are complaining about how you’re sinking or how you aren’t gaining any profits, then you have to get better. Now, I am not a fan of what Rare has been doing with content updates and the game’s current state of play, but blaming your loss on Rare because of some guy doing some niche tech on your boat, then this game isn’t for you.

Since this game (in my opinion) has a high skill ceiling, I think the Sea of Thieves community should start doing community-run/community-sponsored events so that players could learn from one another and make new crew-mates along the way. I’m not talking about the looking for crew of the discord, I’m talking full blown player-ran communities that make other pirates feel comfortable playing with one another. I know there are some out there, but the Sea of Thieves discord should sponsor these communities and help players find communities that they want to belong in. If the community can be a little less toxic and more open to ideas and strategies, then Rare can pick apart what NEEDS to be fixed about the game and how they can make the game better, because they already don’t listen to us now, but they could see and hear us if we all want the same thing.

  • Pirates actually didn't really do most of that. Yeah they stole, but murder was a last resort and sinking a boat was an even laster resort. If you sink the boat you're trying to steal from, you don't get to steal from it because you can't get to the bottom of the ocean in the 1600s, and several thousand pound boxes of gold don't float to the surface like they do in SoT.

Unfortunately, the communities of people who make "other pirates feel comfortable" are not the ones who make them better at the game. Those communities are alliance servers. All they are good for is making the game even more of a hugbox.
