Hourglass Thoughts

  • Hourglass needs a lot of improvements to make it fast, fun and rewarding, also less frustrating.

    1. Make battle area to descrease over time like in PUBG, so people have less opportunity to run and repair unendingly instead of facing opponents. Make the area tighten to one map square lets say in 10 minutes. Those 40 minutes sweaty fights with runners aint a thing, waste of time especially if you're losing in the end.
    2. Preloaded fixed supplies like it was in Arena that reset every new fight without allowing any other items in pockets besides predefined ones. Few hundred cannon balls, 10 chains, few blunder and fire bombs, scatershots. Two stacks of mango, a hundred wood. (roughly)
    3. Make allegiance reward fixed which is equal winning at streak 4 and above to make every single win valuable.
    4. Remove allegiance reward increase iterating towards streak 4.
    5. Stacking wins should just increase the HG value in gold (more and more for following wins), without affecting amount of allegiance per win.
    6. Make worth it fighting sweats - their HG gold value should transfer to yours after the win instead of fixed 20k gold for sinking a champion. If they had 113k on their HG - it sums with yours. Get rewarded for a hard fight!
    7. Due to point 6. maybe rebalance amount of gold per win to trim it down.
    8. As soon as you vote HG on your ship, the respectful emissary flag should be raised, no more flagless ships. If you got another flag up, prevent from voting HG until you lower it.
    9. Allow hourglass voting only for pirate legends to trim down the cheaters and make them suffer.
    10. Hourglass in defending mode makes no sense. You need to stack treasure thats worth 100k gold on board to hit x5 treasure grade. On one hand too much efforts for a possible quick lose. On other, very often server is full and you're just not getting invaded for hours. Even if you are, the cooldown is 20 minutes which negates all the bonus from treasure grade you have, as in that time you could make one extra regular win or two. This feature could be just removed, really.
    11. Commendations like "sink 500 guardians\servants" are horrible, when we are getting same faction fight very often. Add a choice to matchmaking on the table, if you wanna join any fight as soon as possible, or you wanna fight strictly the opposite faction with a longer que time.
    12. Organic server life damage. Servers got 6 ships limit. Having hourglass fight on one leaves only 4 ships around that actually contribute to active server life. Fix: I dont think servers will over load if each adventure server would host only one HG fight, with ships being above the 6 ship limit. HG ships shouldnt take server slots. After the fight is done, the winning crew might stay and wait for the invasion that will Surely happen as HG ships wont take server slots, and you never will stuck on a full server without a fight. If they lower their HG, crew should be instantly forcibly migrated onto another server which got a free slot out of regular 6 until they vote up again.
    13. Motivate guardians players. Return LSD and TSD complete sets(example) and spread them over 200-1000 levels of allegiance to give a reason to play for that faction towards the gold curse. Servants are doing good on that in the meantime.
    14. Redesign Treasure Grade system to reward high risk high reward playstyle for those who like to gamble: Make the grade grow depending on "won in battle" flags on board. For example you got five grade 5 flags on ship that keep your grade maxed. And you can dive like that and fight. Won: get this x2.5 more allegiance. Lost: opponents are rewarded for sinking sweats. This change would allow to actually use that system, with a loot thats worth for HG community.

All these changes are minor, and i believe easy to make. They dont requre grand game additions nor major refactoring but will make Hourglass much more welcomed on the seas in my opinion.

  • @coopers-rum good points

unfortunately nothing will ever happen 🥲

  • Preloaded fixed supplies like it was in Arena that reset every new fight without allowing any other items in pockets besides predefined ones

That isn’t fun and makes hourglass into a mode with set rules in an open world. They wont fit will.
You forget, we can defend so how is that gonna work when we’re out waiting for someone and collecting supplies?

As soon as you vote HG on your ship, the respectful emissary flag should be raised, no more flagless ships. If you got another flag up, prevent from voting HG until you lower it.

Reason behind this? Reapers get rewarded for sinking other emissary players and as I mentioned above. What if I’m running gold hoarder flag and doing voyages for them while also defending?
You want me to lose my g5 flag when a hourglass fight begins? Open world…

Allow hourglass voting only for pirate legends to trim down the cheaters and make them suffer.

Sure sure…takes roughly day or so to reach and many cheaters already have accounts as pirate legends. This needs to be stricter and require doing more

Hourglass in defending mode makes no sense

Some of us prefer it. Maybe I wanna do stuff instead of straight fighting all the time. Maybe I wanna collect a deck full of treasures and supplies. Getting attacked while preparing for a fight, creating advantages if you will.

Fix: I dont think servers will over load if each adventure server would host only one HG fight, with ships being above the 6 ship limit. HG ships shouldnt take server slots.

Foreseeing: server alliances waiting for that sole ship to arrive and blast them out of the waters. Maybe smal %1 but hey….very small % complain about hourglass anyways.

Seems these are more of turning HG into a silly comp fight instead of a means to just pvp for fun with rewards. Very strange

  • Feels like you were quite picky with what to read. As i gave clear connection.

There is no point in "doing other things while defending". Because you going to lose sooner or later.
HG is nothing about adventure. Its pure pvp mode that was brought into adventure cuz they didnt want to bother to make it standalone. As well as aligned with their plain on injecting diving into main game.

Alliances issue was fixed long ago, only ship that matched versus is getting the win. No point in what you just said.

The only time i see people with wrong flags its when swabbies tap on HG by accident instead of a quest table.
No one does defending, not a single soul. Havent seen anyone doing that for ages.

HG meant to be competitive, nothing fun in that, and should be equal and fair to all. No stacked 200 chains, no bonecallers and other stuff. Predefined supplies serve two purposes: First: equal tools so only skill matters. Two: no wasted time on gathering supplies so you can just jump straight back into PvP without getting upset with "freaking supplies again".
When one crew sniffs pineapples on cooldown and other suffering with coconuts there is no balance from the start.

  • Its a joke at all. Today in 10 games out of 15 are balatant cheaters. I think Rare pi*********ng me and other players in the face. I cant even think anything. Im bored of adventure, i like only playing Hg and i cant even play a legit match.

  • HG is nothing about adventure. Its pure pvp mode that was brought into adventure cuz they didnt want to bother to make it standalone. As well as aligned with their plain on injecting diving into main game.

You want something more. A Straight up PvP, separate zone play area. Which, isnt gonna be a thing for awhile.
They learned from Arena, having two servers with set rules isnt good, so they keep it as such.

If you want PvP, and dont wanna Sail around a map looking for a willing fighter. Hourglass is there for it. Perfect, clean and as it should be.
If I want PvP but also wanna do voyages, I turn on Hourglass and set sail. If I loose, I lose the loot collected. That is how Pvp works without Hourglass as well. It both things into do.
Hourglass isn't a Mode sadly, it just a Tool. Kids still cant tell difference.

Alliances issue was fixed long ago, only ship that matched versus is getting the win. No point in what you just said.

Its not an issue about alliances. What you wanted was to spawn in with extra space so another ship can Join. As your example: 6 + 1 so at least 1 Hourglass match goes. So..if a Alliance happens, a group who doesnt care about Exp or rewards. Just help that one ship who gets spawned on, You are looking at problems. Fact you over looked this and think its not a problem shows you didnt do enough looking.
Point is "No one cares" about Exp. They have someone being attacked, they are gonna help them. Just to make it "unfair" :p that is the outcome to your solution. Players will find ways and I just did to make other players hate the new setup.

No one does defending, not a single soul. Havent seen anyone doing that for ages.

Do it every day when i want. I know few guilds that do just this and setup guild to also join in on hourglass fights to help each other. Regardless of rewards given, as long there Guild ship wins :P

HG meant to be competitive, nothing fun in that

No..no it isn't You getting upset and making this post proves your stressing out over it. So it shouldnt be Comp. It should just be as it is now, a Player vs Player experience with fun rewards at the end. If I plan ahead with my extra supplies, no truth to me winning, I could still lose. More supplies doesnt = Easy win. If you think that, no wonder you lose.

First: equal tools so only skill matters.

"Skill" when a skeleton ship, Meg, Kraken, Fog, Storm or other players can switch that up real quick. :D

Two: no wasted time on gathering supplies

Player issue. I dont even bother gathering supplies and I found I win more when I dont. Heck, sank a ship with two chain shots, and 20 cannon ball hits.

getting upset with "freaking supplies again".

Player issue. Upset thinking supplies makes you a grand sailor. This why players are more likely to setup near forts now, cause they are out thinking these supply runners. Those black kegs? I believe they were added for this purpose.

Bottom line. Kids are gonna be upset regardless because they stress themselves over trivial matters. I wanna play how I wanna play, not forced. So if I wanna pvp in hourglass without a flag? I should. If I wanna have a Black keg on my ship waiting for another to surface, and use it. I will.

Your trying to add Rules, to fix a tool that isn't broken. Its the mindset players jump into.
Comp in SoT isn't a thing, as much players wish it. Good games that start going down the Comp route end up trying to match and change things that will affect the rest of the game that doesnt need it.

Remember: You dont like Hourglass? Feel unfair? Broken? Don't use it... Let those of us who know how it works enjoy it.
