Is this how the game supposed to be ?!

  • I’m playing solo sloop. I had a small session, nothing crazy. I sail past some mermaid thing, and since I had received a mermaid map with no real clue, I tried it – too bad, wasn’t the right one... I end up in the sanctuary with waves of crab-like monsters. I die 2 or 3 times but respawn inside the sanctuary, which makes sense.

I finish the sanctuary, put all the loot into the mermaid statue and complete the dungeon. And then, magic: I get teleported back to my ship… but it’s on an island, completely empty, no trace of the mermaid statue. That’s some gameplay. So basically I’m forced to dive into a damn underwater sanctuary, spend 30 minutes down there, and I’m supposed to protect my ship?? Is my ship always visible when I’m diving?! That’s a joke!! And the mermaid statue doesn’t even teleport where I respawn…

Why would I ever do this sanctuary again, is that really how it’s designed? Seriously, isn’t the game hard enough already?

  • It sounds like you did a Treasury and maybe someone sunk your ship while you were below.

Depending on which one you did, you are more likely to be spotted by other players. Generally avoid Treasury of the Lost Ancients, if you can. The two up north (Treasury of Sunken Shores and Treasury of the Secret Wilds) are generally better, but at the moment with the Smuggler's content they have some increased risk as Smuggler's Bay is part of the Smuggler voyage and Old Faithful is the best island to sell Smuggler loot at, so there's increased traffic in those parts of the map.

Because of the risks of PvP, I wouldn't advise newer players to do Shrines or Treasuries on the High Seas, especially solo. These, along with Tall Tales, are ideal for Safer Seas sessions.

The good news is that the loot will be stored and you can go back to the Treasury to retrieve it from the mermaid floating in the water above.

  • I've always wondered who thought that was good game design. I personally just leave them be, if I see someone doing a coral fort. Let them do it in peace, since I was allowed to do all of mine in peace. It feels like one of those things most players are usually kind about, aside from the ones who just enjoy sinking people and nothing else
