New Pirate Deeds

  • Rare/Sea of Theives Team,

After I grinded for hours for cosmetics that do not look good on my pirate I excitedly bought the 3 pack of the pirate deed for the chance to create multiple new characters to use the items I spent so much time to aquire but never use. Only to find out I will now have to play hours and do the same grind again all over as well as miss out on time limited cosmetics and now have to complete them on all pirates making the grind that much worse.

I appreciate the changes that have been made for those who are unable to play as much with the diving to quest but this feels like a stab in the back. Rare please consider adjusting this to keep cosmetics across all pirates on the same account this has been the biggest waste of ancient coins I have ever made. I love the ability to customize the name for each pirate, but wouldn't it be better to have this be the name that others see while playing the game? I have multiple xbox accounts for this reason which is free. Rather than spending money on this.

I appreciate all the work and care you have put into this game. This game has been my escape for the past 5 years and I absolutely love it and the memoriesI have made while playing it. While I have not loved every aspect of the updates over the years this is the one that I ask you to please consider changing.

    Thank you for your time,

  • Kind of defeats the purpose of the profiles everyone seem to demand for many years they claimed.

Starting over from scratch and role play differently…..

  • I wish there could be a choice when using a pirate deed if you want to start over or sync pirates..
For me I just want another pirate to have a different appearance yet keep the same progress and cosmetics (and my original pirate as I don't want it deleted).

I don't have too much time to play SOT, so grinding on 2 accounts isn't an option.
And if I choose to play a different pirate every once in a while, anything I aquire will not carry over to my main, so I'm basically missing out on rewards and cosmetics selectively.
That being said there's a lot I have yet to unlock, so time spent on a new pirate without any carryover seems even more like a waste of time...

I think that if Rare will allow the choice of syncing/seprating pirates it could be a great feature that a lot of people would enjoy.

  • Pirate Deeds are more or less worthless when you can achieve the same thing through alt accounts for free.

What I would really like to do is merge my alt profiles into my main acct and consolidate everything into one place -- I would actually pay for that service. I also agree the cosmetics should be carried over to all profiles.

Rare is completely missing the point here. The fun of alts isn't re-earning everything, actually it's far from it. The fun of alts is to have an opportunity to play the game as different pirate characters and personalities. It's very interesting to me how different characters shape experiences in the pirate world. It's the psychology of the game that is fascinating, not the mind rot grind.

  • @ORI0Npadfoot I am confused as to what you think pirate deeds were? Seemed pretty explanatory that it was a fresh character. If you wanted to change your look you could have just used the cosmetic potions instead? I don't see the point of pirate profiles at all honestly. Other than if you want a fresh start on cosmetic collections because they wont let us save favorites, or to sell the old ugly cosmetics back to clean up our chests. As you have pointed out you have family share which allows you free extra profiles anyway.

@r333f Pirate profiles were something requested like 8 years ago because an extremely small amount of people only got enjoyment from the game seeing the EXP bar go up after selling loot. So those people deleted their pirates to start over so they could get their EXP bars back.... Weird mentality. Especially now when there's an endless grind with milestones and everything else. Plus the game was heavily dependent on FOMO, moreso than now anyway. So the idea of deleting a pirate that had those no longer obtainable cosmetics seems like madness to me.

Giving us the option now just seems like desperation. Even their oldest player base like myself with 100% achievement progression and almost 5,300 hours played barely wants to login any more. I do 3-4 days a season to max out my renown and regain my 100% status when new achievements are added. I think their hope is that people like me with a congested cosmetic chest might want a fresh start. They don't understand the players mindset. This is a cosmetic collection game. As much as I wish I could deleted 90% of my cosmetics now due to lack of them adding favorites... I would never throw away the stuff I earned or time spent to unlock the stuff I actually do want.

It's similar to their idea of charging a monthly fee to be able to play with multiple ships on safer seas.... I have wanted PvE servers since my friends quick 1 month after launch. They really think in a cosmetic driven game that people would pay a monthly fee to not be able to play on their hard earned ship and be able to make progress?

Oh... I just thought of why pirate profiles exist... The same reason the reaper voyage has so many map indicators of where you are, the reason the burning blade was even conceived, the reason smugglers runs exist now give predictable routes to setup traps and ambushes... This is literally just a quality of life feature for Twitch streamers so they don't need to log over to new accounts if they want to be on a new pirate that people would be less likely to recognize? Though wouldn't it still show your handle? Anyway point is they have been pushing Twitch as their primary marketing for a while now to get new players into the game. So anything they can do to help with streamer shenanigans.

  • @magus104 SoT is pirate dress up. Clothes and accessories are basically the only unlocks in the game, aside from ship dress up parts. People want a new pirate doll to put their clothes on without losing out on the pirate doll they already love playing with. We want to put our historical unlocks on a new body. We don't just want a new pirate to dress up, we want a choice of which to dress up and play with. If pirate profiles worked that way I would have so many because I would make so many alts of characters from the game or streamers. I would have 10 pirate profiles already. I don't want to have to do the S14 comms all over again to get a single shirt. I don't want to sell 450 gold hoarder artefacts again just so I can have nice gloves.
