I was right last year!

  • A year and a half ago, I published a post here in which I said that I had a feeling that SoT would offer paid features in the future. And my predictions have (once again) been confirmed.
I am posting this here out of respect for the official Discord CMs, but I will also post this to support because the developers are going too far.

I'm not going to talk about the custom servers that will be paid for, because given the resources required, I understand that you have to pay, but pirate profiles? There is NO reason, absolutely no reason for developers to charge 599 ancient coins for a second pirate profile! That's pure and simple abuse!

You'll probably tell me that yes, you can get AC in the Plunder Pass, but I've done the math:

    • If a player has bought the game and doesn't want to pay for it or for the Plunder Pass, they'll have to wait no less than three seasons to afford a second profile.

You might also tell me that you can get ACs from ancient skeletons, but that's pure RNG, so I'm not counting it.

The reason I'm absolutely furious is that the CMs tell me it's optional (which is true, but the price is still excessive) and that it's to finance the game, and that's where I draw the STOP line!

I can no longer be convinced that we are funding the game, because what exactly are we funding? Recycled seasons? Like that infamous season 17, which is a disgrace???

When the game was released in 2018, it was clear and perfectly accepted by players that skins could be purchased with real money (albeit in a paid game...). But to my knowledge, we were never told that in the future we would end up paying for features.
The developers' promise has been completely broken.

The developers' promise has been completely broken.

The real problem is that the developers are not being honest with us, because it's all very well to apologise, but this isn't the first time they've done so. This isn't the first time they've told us they didn't listen to us, it's not the first time they've changed the game system or the update system. So my question is: What's really going on behind the scenes?

When people say that we're funding things for the game, it's a joke because, as I said, we're paying for recycled seasons and worse: for servers that are still only half stable, for a secure system (regarding cheating). So how long will it take for players to wake up?
Because I really feel like I'm the only one shouting in the desert!
I have NEVER had any problems supporting the developers for four years, but now it's getting ridiculous!

    Especially since:
pirate profiles are there for players who want to restart the game or do RP! Those are the developers' words.
Sure, it's optional, but given the price, it's worse than ridiculous, it's complete nonsense because:

    • If I want to start the game over, I just have to create a Microsoft account, and it's FREE!

I would like to point out that pirate profiles (1 act) cost 599 AC, which is more than half the price of a Plunder Pass containing 8 skins!

At some point, the developers will have to be more honest with us, and above all, they need to stop believing that releasing these kinds of overpriced paid features will continue for much longer...

    • Having to pay for an Xbox or PlayStation subscription to play online on a console
    • Appearance potion
    • Ship name change
    • Guild name change
    • Pirate Act
    • Custom servers (which I don't really count)
    • And what's next?

That's my rant, and even if I'm the only one who thinks this way, I won't keep quiet!

  • To make sure it was clearly visible, I sent a copy of this message directly to the game's support team!

  • All of these are optional payments.
    Nothing forced. Soo....

The question is not whether it is optional or not! It is still unfair, especially for the price! Stop using the excuse that ‘it is optional’.
I too can use it for anything and everything if I want to!

@zeyrniyx but games like world of warcraft are allowed to ask for a monthly subscription fee on top of buying every single DLC there is….

This is not upto the developer, its the platform(s)

Make a good choice the first time and there is no issue

Agreeing or not with the content that gets delivered on a seasonal basis is fine but work is still being put into it. And where people work it costs money.

A live service game is not able to run on just an initial purchase of the game, it simply isn’t.

Then the choice is, do we charge money for all the DLC’s that we put out ? Which everyone that wants to keep playing the game has to buy

Or, do we charge money for completely optional things nobody needs to have and can keep playing the game without ever touching it and which doesn’t give someone an advantage if they purchase it.

I think the latter one is the best option.

Then there is the fact that apart from ancient skeletons which indeed are RNG you get 250 ancient coins every single season by simply completing the 100 renown levels, which doesn't cost any additional money.

That would mean that it would take:

    • Pirate appearance potion:

    • Ship/guild naming deed: 2 seasons (3-9 months)

    • Plunder Pass: 4 seasons (9-12 months)
As soon as you bought the Plunder pass once it is paying for itself every single season, you spend 999 and get back 1000

    • Pirate Deed: 2.5 seasons (6-9 months)
You can buy 3 for 999 which would mean it would be 333 a piece but also obtainable in 9-12 months

Also with microsoft Rewards you can earn points by just playing the game, these you can subsequently cash in for different stuff among which is ancient coins.

So yeah i don’t see the big deal. And it is not Unfair, nobody is forcing you to purchase anything and you can keep playing the game like you have always done.

And as you stated you can also just make a new MS account for free, that option still remains.

EDIT: also newsflash, microsoft and rare are businesses they are not philanthropies and thus are inclined to make money, not making money anymore from the game = no more game

No more gaming, WHAT A JOKE!
Xbox has laid off I don't know how many employees, and Rare has cancelled Everwild!
It's time to stop believing in Santa Claus.

And there's no point in trying to explain AC farming techniques to me, once again, THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE!

Info: I know the scene very well, I know the techniques very well, you're not going to teach me anything!

  • @zeyrniyx said in I was right last year!:

I said no more game, not gaming. If rare doesn’t make enough from sot anymore sot will also go the way of the dodo

Xbox has laid off I don't know how many employees, and Rare has cancelled Everwild!

Incorrect Microsoft has cancelled Everwild, this was not.a decission made by rare

It's time to stop believing in Santa Claus.

    What are you on about…

  • @zeyrniyx i am not telling you how to AC farm i just laid out facts.

Anyway, your giving off huge amounts of “old man yelling at clouds” vibes so you do you i guess since you are so knowledgeable i dont have to tell you the game has an uninstall button

Rest assured that the game has already been uninstalled lol!

And without any regrets, I'll let you milk it for every last drop, but I'm done!
Between the rotten community and now the devs doing whatever they want, SoT is definitely over for me! And I'm not going to hold back from spreading very bad publicity wherever I go! (At the same time, there's no need, SoT is destroying itself.)
You'll be able to recycle skeleton camps in the DR, you'll be happy! You're worse than children!

  • @zeyrniyx don’t worry according to the vocal minority it has been destroying itself since 2018, its still here

  • ...But WHY would you BUY a pirate profile? It has 0 upsides. You might as well just mail Rare a fiver. I don't even know what part of the consumer base would get actual benefits off of this.

It shares the cosmetics bought or are part of paid Season Pass. It also shares the Ancient Coins on your account.

I hear people say they can have a new account - maybe for Xbox pass people or on other consoles, not so much for people on PC who bought it or have it on Steam; AFAIK, I can only link one account to my game.

You'll have the same name - no problems with friends lists or your other account not on the lists of other people.

Useful if people want to set a record such as becoming PL in short amount of time, they no longer have to wipe their primary account or create an alt and say that *0range Curry" is the same as Lem0n Curry and that I hold the record and not some orange person...

What some (most I guess) people want is a way to use the appearance person but keep their old character. This feature is for people who want to walk a different plank path; e.g. a pirate who only steals, a shipwreck only character, a beachcomber &c

  • @lem0n-curry no you can use as many accounts as you want on steam

  • I haven't bought ancient coins in like a year and a half, and have consistently had over 600 on my account; and I constantly buy emotes/pets every season.

SoT is one of the most generous games when it comes to giving out paid currency.

Even when there was a method to buy 20k ancient coins for like $10, I didn't because I didn't see a need.

Yea no, he’s right. The game is free and they need to make money somehow. The very much optional “payments” you’ve had as an option since you started this game are just that. optional.

I’m actually looking forward to custom servers because I’d like to support the game more, but the emporium has provided very little incentive for me . Custom servers at the very least give myself and friends a place to practice shooting one another in the face.

This game doesn’t exist without rare making money.
