Guild Bases - Idea Concept

  • Okay, so as most of the pirates on the seas know, when you accept the start of certain tall tales, you open a portal in one of the stone archways that you pass through to get there. I had a thought based around this concept and the idea of guilds.

Guilds are an awesome thing, something we all love and use frequently, but I got thinking. What if we had an actual base for our guild? What if we had an island, or sea fort, that was entirely dedicated to our guild? Now, I don't mean in open sea. That would make it nigh impossible, as the sea would be filled with Guild Forts. But what if there were a Guild Master that you could speak to at certain outposts that would allow you to open a portal in the stone archway, (Or like the armada fleet, in the middle of the water) that would bring you to your guilds private fort? Choose which style island you'd like to start with, set higher prices per the island you pick, and move on from there. So say you want an itty bitty island no bigger than say, a Sea Port. Make that cost 500k, and you can only add one or two shops to it, and its only tents, no buildings. Or maybe you can add in a couple of decorations purely for cosmetic value. Move on to the biggest fort being something like a Sea Fort, and it costs say 10-15mil. Make the whole thing a "pool" of funds that everyone can donate money into. Make every island bare, and you have to build it up from scratch, each things costing more money. I feel like this would also be a good incentive for people that have a lot of extra money and don't know what to do with it to play more often, as well as give people that don't have much else to earn money for a reason to keep playing the game more often.

What do you guys think? Now I will add don't I don't think there should be any Gold Hoarders or Order of Souls tables or buildings to sell loot at because that would be a little cheat-y.

  • Players spend a lot of gold on the guild they just joined to help boost or build base. Guild decides to kick player after they done so. Because reasons.
    Yeah…

  • While I get the immersion/RPG aspect and personally got nothing against it, I think this is not something it will get added.

Reason being: any time spent in your guild hideout, you're not spending in the sandbox.

Speaking of, Tall Tales are separate instances on a server that serve a lore purpose and offer some rewards for complete.

And Safer Seas is now actually being encouraged to use as a place for doing Tall Tales probably for the same reason - if you're not spending time inside of a sandbox together with other players, you're essentially taking someone else's place on the same server.

Adding guild hideouts would mean either adding yet another type of instance on existing servers, or would require a separate server (which would be even more of a resource hog and money dump on already performance struggling servers - because servers cost to run)

In any case, I think this is not something of best interest to Rare especially since guilds are sadly a feature that really never lived up to their expectations. I just don't see them investing in guilds much, aside from maybe adding some additional commendations and rewards.

But that's just my take, and I could be absolutely wrong.

  • Anything that brings more players out of the high seas and into their own private world is something that only exists to slowly suck players out of the game.
