Swordplay Evolution

  • Hey there! I’ve really enjoyed watching the evolution of Sea of thieve over the years since my time in the alpha. With the recent inclusion of sword variants—at least in name—I wanted to ask about the long-term vision for these weapons.

Are there plans to mechanically differentiate the rapier, cutlass, and heavy sword beyond cosmetics? For example, will we see an expanded combat system down the line, something that introduces unique attack speeds, stagger effects, or combo potential per weapon type? It’d be awesome to see the rapier lean into rapid thrusts and agile dueling, the cutlass maintain its balanced all-rounder role, and the heavy sword offer slower, high-damage swings with maybe some cleave or knockback potential.

I’d also love to know if there’s been any internal discussion around adding light/heavy attack chains, parries, or weapon-specific stuns to deepen the melee combat. It feels like there’s huge potential to diversify PvE and PvP swordplay with these variants, and it could really add depth for longtime players like myself who love the swashbuckling side of the seas.

Appreciate any insights you can share!

No. Everything is Cosmetic only. No special powers or bonuses.
