Improving the voyage board at outposts/sea posts!

  • I love how much potential this game has, especially with being able to take things we already have and improve it, make it better.

For example with the introduction to the hunters call emissary, we took megalodons, gave them a new look, different loot, and harder to slay! It's small things like this, that can really add change, and a bit of freshness.

So with this in mind, I was thinking maybe we could try and improve the voyage board. In my opinion, it's not worth doing. I think even maybe for a new player too.

You're able to collect 5 maps a day, if we think about how long it will take to sail to each place, it's really not worth it, when you're just getting a generic chest/ancient goblet.
I don't think we should entirely eliminate small pieces of loot like this from the pool, but I also think, there should be a chance to find something rarer, that will make it worth it to set out and find. I think the idea of knowing there's a chance to maybe get a chest of legends, or something like that, will make the player want to do it. Maybe even, we could have exclusive loot for it too, that you wouldn't usually find anywhere else, or maybe it's harder to find im other places.

If we were to do that and add that change, I think the odds of digging it up should be low, we don't want to make it extremely easy to get.

So pretty much, make the voyage board that tad bit more valuable, adding purpose to do it and complete it. Since you can take maps from your region, if gives those who maybe don't have long to play, a chance to pick up some valuable loot.

  • @wolfiechan77 the quest board should just be global, and generated maps should be removed entirely

  • When I bury loot and submit maps it's not always top tier loot but I am trying to give better than just basic things. I also try to give full sea forts on maps sometimes.

Then it can be used to "move" treasure between friendly crews on different servers or remove loot in case you're being pursued, post the quest, have someone log in to remove the quest from the board.

Player maps that are still on the board when a server is shut down should be moved to another server though.

  • it's not worth doing

If you’re a new player and low on time. Those quick voyages are perfect. (The npc made ones)

What needs change is reason for players to bury said loot and allow pirates to dig them up. That where the good stuff tends to be.

Why should I bury my 5 Athena chests? What reward do I get? Small percent of Rep? Pffff

  • @burnbacon Aye! I agree with you 100%. While writing this, I completely forgot about the fact that you can submit your own maps.

  • @potatosord aww that's really nice! I hope there's a way, that efforts like this can be more seen recognised within the quest board in the future.

  • @burnbacon Can you imagine some swabbies face when they go to the quest board for their first time playing, get 5 athenas, and immediately just get addicted to the game? That is what its about. When I was doing hider of sizable stashes and the comm for burying athena loot, I actually gave a good handful of maps of only athena treasure. I know you don't have to hand in the maps for those comms but I did anyways. I hope whatever swabbie or comm hunter got my piles of athenas got a lot of joy out of getting essentially an entire free FoF.

  • @lem0n-curry

That is a good point! They could add a Random time delay for when it gets added to the quest board to help.

  • I raised this topic the other day titled "dive to your quest board stashes" the thing with the quest board is that using it to bury your own stashes is pointless when you're diving to other servers constantly, I think this could be a neat feature where you could bury storage crates and half your supplies and go back for them after losing an hourglass or something, I often bury a crate full of stuff just to see if I ever see it on the quest board again, I don't even know yet if you dig the crate back up if it still has the stuff in it or if anyone has found any of my crates, probably not, it sounds like they don't stay there very long and there's not much point in doing it at all according to the answers I got

  • This is a wonderful idea! Although the maps are entirely player based, this sounds like a good idea. Maybe have it so like a chest of legends, chest of fortune is put into one of the maps at random times, not buried by other players but by the system. Then, hide it and make it blend in with the other maps. This would make the voyage more lucrative and more rewarding while also having that excitement, sort of like the voyage of lucks.

  • @antonio98397 The only issue is that it may be hard to blend in and there may be ways of working out if certain maps were made by the system or by a real player. Such as searching the user name on Xbox Live, confirming it’s not a real player.

  • @antonio98397 Some of the maps aren't by real players

  • @wolfiechan77 interesting. Maybe have some maps made by the system and only one of those containing a chest of fortune. Although, this would be bad for real player maps - since they would basically be useless.

  • This activity has unfortunately been dormant for a while now, which is a shame because it has potential.

For some time, I've been wondering what improvements could be made to make the voyage board more attractive to both players who bury treasure and those who will find it. Here are a few loose suggestions:

    • Adding a voyage board to the captain's table. To deter players with malicious intent, once the treasure map is returned to the table, the player will no longer be able to dig it up.

    • Better rewards for the player who left the treasure map, for example, in the form of doubloons or double the reputation of the faction to which the treasure belongs. The higher the gold value, the greater the reward.

    • Ability to create custom quests. For example, if you bury a certain number of skulls, the voyage board will display a quest to kill skeleton captains, or if you sink a ship, you'll receive a voyage to retrieve lost goods.

  • @lusandar If they reward people for making maps it might actually be worth it.

  • @lusandar I would absolutely love it if I got doubloons or something of the sort for burying maps!!!
