Was playing hourglass with my bro and we like to attach a cannon rowboat to the sloop for extra fire power in hourglass. Had quite a few crews in hourglass getting mad at us as for doing it. Opinions?

In a game deliberately designed to allow freedom of play by following the motto "tools not rules" - it is ALWAYS the people attempting to informally impose rules on what tools are "appropriate" who are wrong.
End of story.

You can board someone and ferry lock them to sail them out. My crew sometimes gets out cannoned, but they are sweaty TDMers. They would board, ferry lock them while sailing them out, a win is a win.
Getting curse dumped, bone called, etc. it is annoying but it is always fair game. As long as you aren't being toxic and cheating, it is all good.
Rowboats should be available upon spawn so it's a viable option for everyone in hourglass, I think an extra cannon is a slight advantage and it's more like a non-permenant boat upgrade like a storage crate than it is a consumable because you can keep repairing the rowboat it's not like a one time use item. I don't think it's scummy to use one if you have it but I think it's unfair you can take them into hourglass but we can't all have one, you can't take treasure items in that could give a similar advantage
Yes it is often considered to be "scummy". The reason is because they are not given by default, they have to be found in the adventure mode and could take considerable amounts of time to get one unless your fortunate. Then especially when on a duo sloop you have access to double the firepower, this raw advantage while legal will earn you complaints from large portions of the hourglass who will consider your victory over them to be superficial and believing you may have lost the match without the rowboat advantage. Using cannon rowboat, curses, bonecallers will get your fellow pirates to chirp more frequently. And yes I use cannon rowboat in duo sloop hg if I have one available.
