Ideas / Feedback

  • Ahoy Rare and pirates !

Few feedback and ideas I think would be appreciated in the community. If not please say so yourself.

    First :
Please Rare make it so we can use instruments or drink our grog while seated. Why ? Firstly because it could lead to beautiful scenes for players/youtubers/streamers and also because we, fellows pirates, will always end up drinking and playing our instruments at the inn! Please, please do it !

    Second :
Having a fair fight is always what we seek. And knowing when to stop should be known by all. Unfortunately.. somes pirates are hard to learn... So, what if... If they sink twice (or three times) in a row by the same boat, why not send them to new seas? So the winners can still enjoy the win without being harassed for hours. And also to make the losers learn to move forward and enjoy new seas and new adventures!

    Third and more ambitious!
What if, the map could change ? Not like adding/changing isles or increase/reduce map size or anything that big but what if during a season the map would have few modifications ? Like having one part affected by an event that would change the face of the islands and/or the area?
    For example :

    • Snow : What if, for a week one part of the map would be snowing ? Making sailing more difficult/slower. Having specific enemies affected by the snow. A temporary event regarding the frozen ilses ?
    • Lore accurate event : What if let's say, for a limited time during the seasons or randomly during a month we have like a major pirate (like the pirate lord) doing something that affect an isle or a fort ? And so creating a quest to help him or making the fort harder and so giving more loot ? But not as a quest you can just select on your table! More like seeing something unusual on an island that make us want to explore and found out what's happening. Or seeing an unusual boat around a fort.
Again not doing it with a new quest on the table! But having to look out by ourself the seas!
I have plenty of ideas and I think the community would have some more !

I hope you will find those ideas interesting enough to be talked about !
Thank you for reading and.. See you on the sea of Thieves !

  • I have no objection to the first point.
But if RARE really wants to add this feature, it may require a very large amount of work.
And this job. It cannot add any new playability to the game.
The second point is that I don't know how long you have been playing, and your suggestions will be abused.
meanwhile. Assuming you attacked a ship. Seized a large amount of their treasure.
You hope to sink the opponent three times. Is the other party going to replace the server?
Why? You plundered their spoils of war, and they kept attacking you. Attempting to retrieve their spoils of war. What's the problem with this?

  • Please Rare make it so we can use instruments or drink our grog while seated.

Yes, but Im sure there be weird exploits so it could be that why they havnt tried them

Unfortunately.. somes pirates are hard to learn... So, what if... If they sink twice (or three times) in a row by the same boat, why not send them to new seas?

So if I...say, Sink the same ship, who is running from me and just trying to do a voyage 3 times. I force them off "My" server? Yeah that dont sound bad....

So the winners can still enjoy the win without being harassed for hours.

    hahahaha...eeh.

And also to make the losers learn to move forward and enjoy new seas and new adventures!

    HA-Ha-ha...Oh you be serious?

what if during a season the map would have few modifications ? Like having one part affected by an event that would change the face of the islands and/or the area?

So parts of the map, nobody will wanna visit depending on what is going on. Locking the map out from players, including say Tall Tales?

  • @mr-spx-ss and @burnbacon ,

The first point would only be playing an instrument or drink while seated at the inn or others various place where you can sit. Only that. No weapons, or anything more. Of course it may lead to some weird exploits, like everything else that was added or will!

The second point is not THE solution, it's an idea, a first step for the discussion. It's more about how to reduce that kind of behavior.
I understand, you farmed hours for your loot you want to get it back. But at some point it's just ridiculous...
So many times it ends by : You sunk them. Take the loot. They come back. You sunk them. They come back. You sunk them. They come back. And again and again where at some point, you don't have the resources to fight because they can just come back with their new barrels while you can't.

Why? You plundered their spoils of war, and they kept attacking you. Attempting to retrieve their spoils of war. What's the problem with this?

My personal rule is that if I sunk and lose my loot, I have one chance to get it back. If it fail, well I'm moving on and go do something else. It's funnier this way for me AND for them. Obviously my idea would lead to abuse and exploit. Again it's not THE solution :)

    Finally

So parts of the map, nobody will wanna visit depending on what is going on. Locking the map out from players, including say Tall Tales?

Nothing would be locked or painful enough to avoid completely. It can also be only one island or a small part of the map. Just like the volcanos.
Regarding the Tall Tales, I'm sorry but I'm only talking about ideas I had playing. I'm not at the point where I thought about everything nor can answer everything. Also not my job to implement.

I understand you love the game as it is, I do too. I'm just thinking about news way to explore the seas not by simply take a quest on the table and "Go there"/"Do this". I want to found something new. A ship or shipwreck that's not supposed to be there, a pirate waiting for me somewhere he's never been. Make so the seas offer us new ways to explore them, new things to discover. Not necessarily something big as a new island. Just adding more randomness to our adventures other than the long known squeleton ships or megalodon. And not just for few days after an update.

  • Fishing while seated is also something they should add. Maybe have a backend tag on the seats so they can enable fishing on some seats but not others. There is no reason to pull out your fishing rod in a tavern while seated but all the boat spots and docks are prime fishing while seated spots.

If one boat is sinking over and over that means they are coming back for more. That's their problem, they don't have to go back!

That's the freedom of the game.

  • I've always been a fan of your first point. Few years ago, I was on a gally crew stacking FotD, and we ended up having to sink the same annoying sloop over and over again, our supplies dwindling down to where we had to leave.

Not just that, we have actual chairs in the game lol, that you can carry to your ship/boat.

This would finally give them a bit more purpose, aside from screenshot usage and a pretty miserable amount of gold when sold to merchants.

Idk... maybe give them a tiny reel-in bonus (5-10% faster reeling). Can't remember when was the last time I brought up a chair on my ship, as for me it's just not worth losing any time over them unless roleplaying/screenshots.

  • @r3vanns The stool literally has no point to exist beyond sitting on, its worthless, and you can't do anything while sitting on it. I do see the stool as being a little hard to code so that you can't fish on it in certain areas where you can't fish from other seats, but then again, maybe there is no point to making a distinction between them, since even if you cast in a tavern there is nothing it can do
