It feels insanely unfair and frustrating losing a streak not because you got outplayed, not because you made a mistake, not because your opponent is better....but because random NPCs or other players decided to get involved and focus you down.
There is zero counter play to this, it's objectively unfair and poor game design. Can we get a proper PvP mode where it's just the two teams fighting each other? This isn't even a rare occurrence and makes what should be a mode that rewards skill just a dice roll, this is unacceptable.
Hourglass mode is really unfun and poorly designed

Unfortunately it's integrated into normal adventure mode, possible logical speculation on my part was to cut on server costs and used the whole ''Outside influence'' as a sloppy paintjob excuse as to why you shouldn't moan getting 3v1 in a Hourglass Battle... As it can happen to your opponent as much as it can happen to you...
Personally I haven't met a single player who I played HG with who genuinely likes outside influence, NOT ONE!. Can we get a proper PvP mode where it's just the two teams fighting each other?
Well Arena existed, failed to get updates = People didn't play much of it as expected= game mode was pulled out to never return.
This is just how PvP in SoT has been for the past 4 years now. Their ''PvP seasons'' are also not dedicated to the actual PvP community, but more so the general player base. I mean look at this season. Cannon of rage I've barely seen it used in actual PvP battles outside of here and there rarely. Any good crews can trigger the explosion on enemy boats which makes it a odd tool outside of swabbies using it to chase one another.
It's just deemed as a PvP season since it's reaper themed...
Yeh sorry I went on a tangent at the end there. But you are asking for a miracle to even get a PvP mode in which Arena once was, or a complete rework/overhaul of what Hourglass currently is. A miracle...
but because random NPCs or other players decided to get involved and focus you down.
Would you be saying the same thing if the npc or other player focused on the other ship and helped you??
it's objectively unfair and poor game design. Can we get a proper PvP mode
Again. What is unfair when it can happen to either ship?
Also, you seem to be confused with what hourglass really is….its not a mode. Mode would mean it’s a separate system you choose and takes you out of the main game.
It’s a tool for instant PvP, which you got. And so what another ship appears? It still pvp. Which what you wanted.Would you be saying the same thing if the npc or other player focused on the other ship and helped you??
Yep, I don't get any satisfaction out of that. I hope this wasn't a genuine attempt at a "gotcha"
Again. What is unfair when it can happen to either ship?
Cause it doesn't happen to both ships, you can lose a well earned win streak because on that 4th or 5th game the dice rolled against you, not because your opponent outplayed you.
What are the benefits to allowing these random outside interferences?Yep, I don't get any satisfaction out of that. I hope this wasn't a genuine attempt at a "gotcha"
Doubt. Since you didn’t mention it as part of the problem or has anyone in the past. It always “against” never with.
What are the benefits to allowing these random outside interferences?
None but you signed up for pvp in an open world. It’s what you wanted. If it be npc or another player, it’s a fight to the death.
But as you also said, you get no satisfaction for another player or npc helping you win a fight,You also don’t seem to care about winning anyways. So what the deal with losing a streak or 2? Did it once, do it again and streaks show your worth so if another notices you, they want to fight you.
Big target on your head, and Rare have said once you sign up. You will be hunted@burnbacon As a freelance lawyer Rare (joke), tell me if it is a violation of the rules if two or more ships on the server collude in advance and wait for the "attacker" (actually "victim") enemy.
And the second question: a ship cannot dive underwater to start a pvp battle if there are other ships or some kind of pve danger nearby. why is this so - it is clear. but why can a ship surface to the enemy, next to which there are other ships or pve danger? if the crew does not want to dive underwater to start a pvp battle, but "wait" for the enemy, why should such a ship not fulfill the same conditions as their enemy? (open sea, no danger and other ships)Doubt. Since you didn’t mention it as part of the problem or has anyone in the past. It always “against” never with.
Although it's obvious you're approaching this in a bad faith manner to argue semantics, you're still wrong because I used the words "your" and "you" which would mean I am speaking about someone else other than myself, otherwise I would use the words "I" "me" and such if I was exclusively talking about myself and my struggles. I believe in a fair match for everyone involved is required.
I will not be bothering reading the rest of your post since like I said you are clearly engaging in a bad faith manner, I suggest you let go of that and learn to live a more sincere and less hateful life, you'll enjoy it more for it. (Note how I said "you'll" here, meaning I am talking to you, and not myself, seems like you need this spelled out, you're welcome.)@bananaarms5219 said in Hourglass mode is really unfun and poorly designed:

(Note how I said "you'll" here, meaning I am talking to you, and not myself, seems like you need this spelled out, you're welcome.)It is you that is wrong here, as you think Hourglass was designed as a sterile, balanced arena sort of activity - it is nothing of the sort. Hourglass has NEVER been advertised as a balanced or fair fight between players, nor was it meant to be. It is a TOOL to queue PvP on demand in the Sea of Thieves, not to be transferred to an arena with equal supplies or devoid of other interactions. It is a PvP match in the game world containing the same threats as if you play normally, whether it be the environment, NPC opponents or actual players interfering in the match. If you were expecting a predictable, sterile Arena type match I suggest you look elsewhere as that has already been tried and failed in this game.
Disrespecting other players because they disagree with you is not going to win you any friends either. Just shows you have no faith in your own argument so try to discredit others.

Just leave this as it old video but from rare words talks about what Hourglass is, used for and how it functions.

This would be a fair thing to say if not for the fact you're oddly ignoring his disingenuous attempts at a gotcha while everyone else in the thread has approached the thread in good faith, both those who agree and disagree.
There is nothing wrong with giving someone back the same energy they're putting out, and your bias is very much on display acting like he wasn't the instigator.@bananaarms5219 said

3RD party's aren't fun, it's throwing in the most annoying wrench into the matchup, It's annoying when it happens to either your or them regardless. It feels cheap that you win with a 3rd party help.UNFORTUNATELY, the reality of the matter is that it won't change, ever... So you just got to tolerate and deal with it, or play any other PvP game out there that respects your time...
@bananaarms5219 Hourglass is not a one v one mode, but I understanding how annoying it is to be third partied and other hg players do to. I would suggest asking for a temporary pause from your opponent to deal with the third player because often times they will accept it since they understand being on the other side of the coin. I know I always pause even if they are targeting my opponent because its just a nice thing to do and I'd want them to do it for me.
