Pristine Variants of Tusks, scales and teeth are way too rare, Rare!

  • So, those pristine variants are obtainable only with emergent boars and megs. Let me describe my experience in these days:

    • I’m currently at 5/50 pristine tusks after 12 Hours of play time. Those emergent boars are nearly impossible to find, the islands where they spawn are really distant and even if you manage to find the wallow, you’ll waste a lot of time searching for the boar. If you think that fruit and footprints are useful, think twice.

    • I’m currently at 1/50 pristine teeth, 0/50 pristine scales. And I’ve killed around 3/4 emergent megs in the same playtime as above, 12 Hours. Meaning that they’re not even GUARANTEED after an encounter. That 1 tooth that I found was looted from a kraken.

I seriously hope that a rebalance hotfix is planned and near. After 6300 hours on this game and with every meg killed around 80-90 Times EACH, this is insulting for veteran players.

  • @fox-gr Finding emergent boars takes a long time, but it's possible. However, megs are crazy!
I killed two megs: the first one gave me a pristine tusk (not teeth), the second one gave me nothing.
If pristine teeth can only be obtained from emergent megs, then it's impossible

  • You didn't complete the comms yet? Damn, let's knee jerk reaction nerf them all completely

About meg pieces, this update is way worse than war chest 1.0

  • I checked pretty much every large island in The Shores of Plenty and The Ancient Isles yesterday looking for emergent boars and I found exactly 1. I'd say it could do with a little bit of a boost. It shouldn't be trivial to complete, but going island to island like isn't particulary engaging gameplay (insert Merchant message in a bottle rant here)

I am not fond of the idea of specific megladon loot being restricted to emergent megladon's only. I've been trying to complete my Athena megladon stuff for the last while and I thought with the addition of the megladon voyage I could finally get that knocked out without having to sail around on the same server wating for a spawn. Now with the voyage, getting the athena stuff done should be practical (though I have not yet got a Shadowmaw or Ancient Terror), but I still have to seek out emergent spawns for pristine stuff. It's a shame. It prevents me from doing the raid voyages I might want to do. I got 2 emergent spawns yesterday and neither of them dropped any of the new pristine loot. I actually got a Redmaw grizly scale from a Hungering One, not sure that is intended.

  • @fry9889 it it can help, emergent boar can spawn only on islands where you can also do a boar hunting quest. So, you’ll NEVER find boars on

    • sailor’s bounty
    • mermaid’s hideaway
    • Thieves haven
    • plunder valley
    • marauder’s arch
    • old faithful isle

But the real issue is with megs.
An emergent encounter is a rarity, if you need 50 pieces each to complete the commendation and the drop isn’t event guaranteed, as is with the ancient ones, this is utterly frustrating

I figured there was some restriction on the boar islands, I didn't have an exhaustive list. Thank you for that. I imagine the wiki will be update in due time. I'll figure out an efficent route for checking the islands. At least I can avoid some of the more annoying islands

  • @fry9889 I've gotten boar quests on old faithful, tho

  • Yesterday I found a wild boar in the calm sea, but since this morning not even one and I've been playing for three hours. 😭🤷🏻

  • Rare enough that it shouldn’t be a week or month completion.

Seriously….idk why people wanna complete things quickly

  • Completionists really are the worst kind of players…

  • @tesiccl also the most solid userbase.

  • @tesiccl

Once they do everything. What left for them I wonder. Quit?

  • @fox-gr meaning nothing. You’ll survive if you don’t complete the comms by the next update.

  • @burnbacon complain there’s nothing to do.

  • I consider myself a Commendation Completing Completionist but don't see the excessive frustration at finding this loot to be rational. The Hunter's Call is now a legit trading company. They're only requiring what, 50 of each new item to be sold to complete each of these comms? That's a very low number and I'm honestly disappointed it's not higher.

Consider a comparison to other trading company comms, like GH which requires upwards of 200 of each item turned in. I've got 3,000 hours in game and only JUST finished my 200/each chicken, pig, snake, plant etc deliveries, of which I'm proud of.

The new Hunter's Call commendation's required loot numbers honestly should've been higher. There's nothing fancy for completing them all- even their ledger doesn't have anything new this period. The Wild Seas curse is what everyone's rushing to get, and that's unrelated to the turning in of this loot pool.

The regular Megs' new loot is meant to be collected gradually and naturally unless you're grinding the new Meg Hunting voyage. I agree you should constantly get at least one grisly tooth or scale with each emergent encounter, but the pristine stuff should be more rare. It shouldn't even show up with krakens. There's not much to look forward to collecting once you've completed most of this game so I'm excited to have something to seek and try to challenge myself to get.

The wild boars are a bit frustrating and I get it, but I think they just need to spawn in a more consistent way. I don't like that they only spawn on random islands since Hunter's Call voyages and actions take place at sea, so you really have to spend a ton of extra time just visiting huge island if you're looking for them.

I've already got my curse and completed the earlier HC loot comms so I've been looking for the emergent boars and have only found 2 today, and accidentally I might add. People have been figuring out strategies to find them faster so that info is out there with a quick Google, but AGAIN, it's clear that the hunters call loot comms are not meant to be grinded out because then what are you going to work for towards Hunter's call? Nothing.

That would have been like starting the game and saying I need to go grind Marauders chests as a gold hoarder, or plants as a merchant. Take a breath and instead of getting let it fuel and guide your next voyage.

  • @fox-gr

Me and a crewmate got like 4 or more in like 30 minutes.

  • @fox-gr

Through process of elimination you can figure out which Big Islands will have a Voyage Boar vs Big Islands that have an Emergent Boar, so the boar tusks are easy to get.

I 100% agree with you though on the Pristine Meg Teeth / Scales - they're ONLY available through Krakens and Emergent Meg spawns - and even then they're way too rare & RNG vs the guaranteed drop rates for the Ancient Megs.

Several tickets have been submitted about this and hopefully they will adjust the spawn rate soon, + ensure they also drop for killing the new Shrouded Glass voyage, which currently you only get Grissly variants of

  • @grantsby The Pristine Meg Teeth/Scales are not ONLY from emergent Kraken/Meg spawns. I have found a handful so far from emergent Wild Boar wallows as well.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, not sure why do you have to talk down on players for having a different playstyle than you though, but You do You I guess. The OP brought up a valid issue with the new items. (Your personal opinion about certain players are not related to this topic at all)

Although the tusks are easy to get as 2 of them are guaranteed when you kill a boar, the pristine megalodon items are a different case. Their drop rate is very low chance locked behind another low chance RNG events like krakens, megalodons(which sometimes won't spawn at all even during a long session), or wallows which can contain up to 5 items, but they are mostly low-value loot OR they can be empty as well.

I always wondered why are the easiest/easier commendations are rewarding you with cosmetics, and the hardest ones will only give you a title if anything. Do you NEED to complete them in a day? Absolutely not. However that doesn't invalidate the fact that the drop rates for these items are irrealistically low, even horns were better, hopefully the devs will realize this.

    PS:
maybe your goals in the game are different, but that doesn't give you the right to criticize someone who just respectfully brought up an issue and even gave tips about the said topic. Maybe it's not an issue for everyone because we don't care about everything equally, but I also won't say HG matchmaking bug is not an issue just because I don't play HG anymore..

  • Well you are entitled to your opinion

    Correct.

  • In my opinion, there is currently no need to adjust the probability of wild boars appearing. 50 teeth means you only need 25 wild boars. If you can encounter one every day. It only takes 25 days. The 16th season will arrive in one month. This is completely acceptable.
But we need to repair the footprints of the wild boar. Their footprints are intermittent. Simultaneously possessing extremely high movement speed. There is too much grass on the island. It is easy to lose the target during pursuit and have to search the entire island again.
Wild boars have too much blood.
Use throwing knives to attack them.
A wild boar requires 7 attacks to kill.
This means that if I carry a hook and lock gun to search for islands and use a throwing knife to attack wild boars, I will have to replenish ammunition once to kill them. Because I only have 5 small knives that can be thrown.
For Megs. I agree with your viewpoint. They are too rare. Even they may not necessarily fall off.
Since the theme of the 15th season, 'Hunter', has arrived. Why not turn the fallen treasure from the treasure chest into a fish?
The huge shark devoured other small fish. But it hasn't been digested yet.
When you attack it, it drops the collector's edition fish. And its teeth or scales.

  • @tesiccl said in Pristine Variants of Tusks, scales and teeth are way too rare, Rare!:

Well you are entitled to your opinion

    Correct.

But you are NOT entitled to you own facts.

Sadly the fact is right now, emergent megs and Krakens have a higher likelihood of dropping Barnacled Dread and Feared Redmaw loot than the standard Megladon Teeth and Scales. This is clearly a poor design choice and likely because the task to code this was assigned to the seasonal cleanup/maintnenace team with the main devs who designed these voyages have already moved on to working on S16 stuff.

Indeed they should have added hunters call loot to the Kraken and meg drops.. but that extra loot should have been the Hutner's Call trash loot (crates/packs)... The scales/teeth/tusk should have been kept exclusive to the beast those drops belong to. Oh well as usual, the attention to detail issues in SOT always are deprioritized to keep this game on some arbitrary seasonal drop schedule... And the voluminus bugs and issues simply continue to add up patch after patch.

  • @artie

But you are NOT entitled to you own facts.

None of my replies on this thread were stated as factual, just my opinion, so not sure what you add to this.

  • @tesiccl
    [mod edit]

The drops of the new meg/boar loot are indeed non-sensical the way they are now and should be revisited. It's crazy the new Ancient Meg loot is now more common/obtaianable than the brand new loot added to represent the 7 year old standard emergent megs.

  • Please avoid engaging in personal arguments and derailing the topic of the thread. It is fine to debate the content of the post, and the viewpoints therein, but disrespecting any of your fellow pirates personally is against the pirate code, and our forum rules.

  • Hello again! I’m sorry, I was too alarmist about tusks, in fact I’ve already completed them.

But about meg parts… well, this is nonsense, and I’m happy that I’m not alone thinking this way. My friends and me are killing every emergent meg, but rarely we got pristine variants.

I think that meg parts should be dropped like the ancient ones, because right now it’s way easier collect ancient pristine parts than regular ones!

  • Why the hurry? The addition has not been out that long (boars), so maybe this will become an issue if you have not gotten the achievement done in lets say 6 months.

Why do everyone want everything immediately nowadays? AND if you do get everything immediately, you complain that there is nothing to do and its too easy to do. This is not targeted at the OP, just a reflection on how people in general seem to act.

So why not just play the game, and slowly you will organically get everything done. Me and my friends just play the game and see what is happening, and let that guide us. Not everything has to become a grind, or a race to get done quickly.

  • On reflection pristine tusks aren't completely terrible. Though maybe some indication that an island might have a boar is needed. There was mention of hoof prints, maybe they need to be made more prominent. Simply sailing to and seaching each potential large island, is a little boar-ing...

I stand by the pristine megladon stuff though. I finally got one of each type on my 4th emergent megladon. Given how long it takes to get an emergent megladon, I find it a little unfun. A very simple fix would be to make them a rare drop in the megaldon hunting voyage also. Maybe a 1 in 4 chance of a the loot item being pristine. Or perhaps link them to the rarity of the megladon you get in a voyage. So far the type in the voyage appears to be weighted in a similar way to emergent megladons. A higher chance (but not guaranteed) of pristine stuff with an Ancient terror voyage and a low (but not impossible) chance with a Hungering one could add some nice variation to the voyage.

Its true that some commendations should take time to complete, but this one just doesnt make sense.
Emergent megs and Krakens are the only way to get these loot items, but its not guaranteed that they drop even one of the two (Pristine scales and teeth).
We already have super grindy commendations for the megs with Athena, we dont need another set of these so we have to kill another 100+ Megs/Krakens.

In my opinion they should lower the requirements for the commendations, lowering them to 10 pristine skales and teeth, just like the Ancient megs.

  • @DerMasterBob

In my opinion they should lower the requirements for the commendations, lowering them to 10 pristine skales and teeth, just like the Ancient megs.

This, and those pieces should be 100% guaranteed.

  • @z0rk

True, however even more incredibly rare because you can also find things like Redmaw and Barnicled Dread scales/teeth in Emergent Boar Wallows too.

  • So, the grade 5 for each pristine variant is now reduced from 50 to 20. Now it’s important to see how’s the droprate from emergent meg.
