Very Disappointing Patch

  • So far we have:

-supply barrels not floating up (legal spawncamping is back!)

    • Invincible god mode bug

-a new spyglass that makes your game look like you just won a game of solitaire

-water bug at its actual worst

    -HG infinite blackscreening

    -frame loss still unfixed

    -barrel frame loss still unfixed
    ——————————————————
I’m not even done finding bugs but this patch just seems sloppy. IN MY OPINION! Rare needs to take a good look at the game and realize they need to upgrade the engine to U5 (Don’t tell me it’s not possible it very much is). The content and the code alignment is so cooked and it brings new bugs with every “correcting patch.” This game is on its last leg… or it’s crawling I don’t know? Wildgate is about to come out and brings that old arena PvP experience. FYI if no game changing corrections are made to server stability, game stability, and PvP content (your biggest market) you need to make a move now before 75% of your community leaves to go play Wildgate. I’m just disappointed you guys keep pushing the “PvE is our money maker” narrative. We both know this isn’t true when you look into LFG servers and channels.

This game is bound to be dead in the next 6 months. Please make a good call on how best to proceed before you lose your entire community.

Oh no it's going to die soon again... How many years has it been dying now?

Have you done any bug reports to the devs, submitting videos helps most.

  • @gworbie my graphics card arrives on Monday, can't wait to do anything except download and play SoT again 🙏

Genuinely how has it been 2.5 years since S8 release and HG is still falling apart. I mean it's been 10 months since ship speeds were changed and wave bugs became a real issue, and yet there has been no consistent period of improvement. I mean atp idk why y'all are even still playing. It was fun while it lasted, sure, but the good times have kinda passed. It's not even like the stuff that has introduced all these bugs have really made the game better. Also still no major update to HG or really anything to breathe life into the PvP side of this game. I mean it's actually impressive how thoroughly they have managed to negate any fun in the PvP side of stuff. Idk man, I'd just quit atp and stop holding out hope. I'd play in LoT, but I don't wanna play the actual game, y'know?

  • @captdirtyoar here's a paste from another thread, very relevant to what you said:

my guild quit, the other guild I'm part of quit, a majority of LoT quit, everyone I know on NAW quit, and a bunch of other people I know from other regions quit. But yeah, I made it up :) It's definitely all in my head, and the people I talk to are just lying to me :) That's definitely what's happened, because everyone loves the PvP updates we've been getting :)

Game’s been dying for 7 years according to the people who love to hate playing the game.

  • If I had a gold coin for every time someone parroted the "dying game" nonsense, I could retire.

This game has apparently been 'dying' for so long that it's either immortal, or undead.

  • @guildar9194 SoT is like a Tulpa - it gets more powerful, the more people claim it's dead haha.

  • Please tell me the black screening in hourglass is fixed, even if it's not.

  • Major framerate losses since patch, multiple freeze-ups and crashes.
Glad to hear 'We're working on game stability' on every video released

  • A bit dramatic in my opinion. Whenever I experience bugs after a new patch, I think to myself, "Ok, every game has bugs and glitches. It's a new patch and things are bound to happen or break. The developers know about it and will make adjustments and fixes as soon as they can. In the meantime, I'll just make due until it's fixed."

But instead, let's just say say the game is unplayable and will die in six months instead LOL.

  • yeah its bad. last launch went too well.

  • @cainbong

  • I joined a friend for 5 mins, wave movement was buffering, there is a new hunting spear dupe already. Sad times

Right, it’s kind of stale hearing about stability and performance and it constantly becoming worse and worse lol.

In my honest opinion, as a pve and pvp enjoyer, I think Rare needs to delete useless content/assets from the game and keep deleting stuff until it stabilizes and becomes a truly competitive environment instead of a laggy diceroll.

A house built upon sand will eventually fall, but with a firm and stable foundation of stone it will last a lifetime— I truthfully believe SoT would be a top 5 multiplayer game if it would just tighten up the performance.

I have a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Nvidia 4070ti SUPER, 64GB DDR5 RAM (5200mhz), 2Tb SSD, GIGABYTE B650 UD AC Mobo. My computer should absolutely crush this game, and this game crushes my pc tbh.

  • @europa4033 You need to branch out and play some other games if you think anything about SoT performance is normal. In The Finals, the worst bug they've had (other than servers not working for a few hours, which does happen in every game) in like the last 6 months was some textures not disappearing/appearing on console. That was patched in a week, and certainly didn't make the game unplayable. The fact that your ping will go up 60, your FPS drops by 30, and hitreg goes from like 5% to 50% after every update in SoT is absolutely absurd. And again, it's not like these updates are making the game much better. I mean seriously is all the pain in bugs worth the addition of boars? IMO they shoulda quit while they were ahead.

I agree completely. The game first needs to be fluid, stable and performing as intended. Adding useless junk that breaks the game or makes it worse is not the fix.

I recommend they just start deleting useless cosmetic assests or mechanics and keep deleting junk til the game runs how people honestly expect video games to run in 2025.

Rare was purchased by Microsoft for a whopping $335MILLION DOLLARS.

We should have state of the art stability. I’m worried one day I’m going to just be sick of the terrible performance and inconsistent gameplay that I’m just gonna go play another game and spend my $ elsewhere.

I have Ryzen 5 3600, Geforce 1650, 16gb ddr4, 480gb ssd, on an asus B550 mobo and the game flows like a charm (except the networking part which really stinks since many updates ago).
It is not at max graph of course, but... something decent tho.
So I think you might have "something else". Some "booboo-ware" (virus, malware, blotware, etc). That's the cost of Micro$oft Window$

  • @boneyardx0 I don't think shaving out old content, so the proverbial water doesn't spill out of the glass is the way to go. I think the best case scenario is getting the game ported to UE5, off the current bespoke UE4 build, upgrade to newer servers (not awful azure severs), and develop the game onward for next-gen consoles/PC exclusively (sorry xbox one players).

Wouldn't be so quick to hope UE5 fixes stuttering. Just ask Oblivion Remastered fans. xD And that's only the most recent example.

On the other hand, I do believe SoT is in a dying need of better server/better network code, so I def do agree with you on that part.

But yea, I'd still love seeing it on UE5 for all the other possible graphical improvements. I can only imagine how insane SoT would look with lumen (and/or RT), and all the other shiny stuff.

I’d be down for whatever makes this game consistent. My PC also just got basically 90% of the parts replaced thru RMA so might have just been my PC but everyone says the same stuff I do lol

  • No word today on identifying and fixing this problem? Not looking good for this weekend :(

  • @cainbong You should see the SoT Discord.

Just a lot of people asking if HG is back online not realizing it's the weekend so no one is at work to fix it lol.

  • As someone who picked the game back up in season 15 and was very adamant about playing again this recent "patch" has taken all wind out of my sales to continue playing.

    :(

  • HG infinite blackscreening...

  • played with my room mate our pcs size by side. he was fishing off a dock i saw him standing halfway down the dock fishing through the wood.... if 2 pcs in the same household cant even see where each other actually are on the server no wonder hit reg is a mess and people cry hacker and teleporters when its just the game being a hot mess every update. sigh i wouldnt give them such a hard time about this is they wouldnt insist so much on the pvp nature of the game and not embrace allowing people to do everything on safer seas. hits game has always struggled to handle the multiplayer element. we love the game so we tolerate it but every update fixes one thing and breaks 2 others

  • In all the years I've played Sea of Thieves, I've got to say this patch has absolutely broken the game the worst I've ever seen. It would be more bearable if everything wasn't low-quality blurry textures, and I could see my pirate. At least maybe then I could half-enjoy the game, even being picked on as much as I am. I paid quite a bit for this game, and the least it could do is run half-decently and have some sort of quality. Instead, all that seems to happen is 'patches' get applied, and everything turns into a heaping pile of smoke. 1 step forward, 15 backward. I'd be a little more lenient myself about some of these bugs if it wasn't every waking hour I actually tried to play the game. Bugs happen, yes, but is it a game, or a bug with a little game in it?

  • @shakyraindrop13 Just patiently wait for the apology video, where they explain they missed the mark and promise to do better for the 100th time. Then everyone can pretend like that will actually happen and we repeat the cycle forever. The least Rare could do besides attempting to fix this stuff is give out some sort of apology cosmetic. I feel like the majority of games that I play almost always have some sort of "reward" for dealing with the broken game issues, like Rare could do a complimentary cosmetic and maybe 10 voyages of luck for every player. Something to show the community besides just another apology video or worse, just radio silence.

They'll have to fix the Voyages of Luck first ... I'm getting the "No such voyages" message when I want to do those 😁.

  • @r3vanns Yeah, I did hear that UE5 has some issues of it's own. UE4 can still accomplish some awesome feats, but I really think the servers are the main, primary issue.
