Most people who I talked about this event loved how much action there is around the forts, I understand we can't always get 15 chests every week at random forts.
But maybe every future season can have a new and rare, seasonal limited chest on the Fort of Fortune ( or another world event ). This chest may or not be there, but surely this will create as much action around the event for this rare chest as during the mega stash event? Collect x of those chests and you unlock something?
I don't think they need to add new items all the time. They can just re-use the mega stash mechanic and apply it to more world events.
I think that there should always be a mega stash chance (though not as crazy as this event) for any emergent world event. Add a couple of extra higher tier loot to the pool, maybe some kingly items, etc... Nothing major, but a nice surprise.
A bit of randomness can spice things up.
There should be a monthly event similar to the mega stash, with high reward cosmetics attached. Some people will complain, but not everything is for everyone. I did about 50% of the last tall tale, but others loved it, and that's great for them.
For example: For a week starting on May 1, Molten Sands is now a super fort, containing 5 ashen athenas, plus ashen captains chests, ashen skulls, etc. It's marked by a large red skull in the sky. Then, you have various commendations with ship parts or clothing items attached. Complete 5 molten sands, get the sails. Turn in 100 ashen athenas, get a hat. Turn in 50 stolen ashen athenas, get a title. Yes, some of those might seem like a high number, but it should be. Not everyone should get every commendation just for participating. I remember the old Reaper's Run voyages that had to be completed with the Reaper's Mark up. That was difficult, and the rewards were worth it.
The last week has been phenomenal for interactions, the best that I can remember since FotD first came out. We need more of these events. For me, I'm not concerned about "inflation". I have 400 million in gold that I'll never spend. I'm sure there are many players that are in a similar situation.
@burnbacon that's an extremely different experience then what I had. 90% of the forts had other ships around it, at one of them there 4 ships where fighting over the loot. Tons of fun :)
