Time locked items

  • Hey can a dev answer me this: Why are over 1000 cosmetic items in this game time limited? Why is it that there are over 1000 items in the game no one will ever be able to get again, with some only being available within the first few months the game was out with no valid reason as to why. The bonecrusher set has the cannons, wheel, and capstan still in the game, but the figurehead hasn't been available since the second month the game was out, nor has the hull or sails. They were only available during an event for one month in 2018. What is the point of putting time and effort into these cosmetics if no one will ever get to see them again?

  • I think the only reason there are people who think that way is because they were bred into the unequal system of one-time limited content and were fed the appealing idea to flex items onto others to seek validation. The key is to understand cosmetic rewards being available to others doesn't take away your own experience of the game, and that if one really wants to flaunt their early playtime, the Xbox profile exposes it as long as it's not hidden, or they can just type it in chat or say it in their mic if they really want people to know when they played. Gatekeeping cosmetics in a game that entirely revolves around them is unhealthy and unfair, and leads to a lot of players bullying others over a supposed "skill issue" for not logging onto the game a specific weekend almost 7 years ago.

Doubt it that many. Can you name 100? Im curious myself.

some only being available within the first few months the game was out

Because every game has it opening day, like Disney. First 1000 people got life tickets, and they are transferable among family. Is that fair?

But anyways, Rare has already proven over time...those Limited items do come back in some form. New ways to unlock.

What is the point of putting time and effort into these cosmetics if no one will ever get to see them again?

For those who...were there to do such an event? If you missed, just wait...

  • Time limited items serve to reward players who played during the earliest points in the game, and to highlight those adventures. To be clear, I think there is a time and place for time-limited/FOMO items and not all should be gated - there are plenty that are not (I sincerely doubt the number of limited-time items reaches that high).

The Bonecrusher set was part of the original Cursed Sails event, where players had to battle three different Skeleton Ship fleets, while also doing so on a time crunch (the timeframes of when the fleets were active was different, and sometimes conflicted with people's schedule). The cannons, wheel and capstan were added much later, and weren't part of the initial release set.

I'm sorry, but if someone wasn't playing during an old event and did not participate in it in any fashion, they shouldn't be rewarded with/allowed to willy nilly obtain those items. Plain and simple. It's not unfair, it's not meant as a slight towards you, that's just how it works.

What IS unfair is not only attempting to trivialize the work people put into getting these cosmetics, but also implying that people are toxic for wanting to "gatekeep" their rewards, when they're the ones who worked for them in the first place. It's also unfair to expect the developers to just make these accessible because you want them.

Unfair? How it's unfair to you. You weren't even there at that time mate xD

First of all, there is a big difference between time-limited, and time-limited exclusive items. Latter ones are not supposed to return, cuz you know, that's the point of them being exclusive.

Regarding any type of bullying or actual toxicity (by actual I mean actual, not just someone sinking you) you have a report feature, so use it. There is no need to spin "toxicity" as a way of "proving" why time-limited exclusives should be unlocked for everyone. It just comes off as gaslighting, which only makes suggestions look even worse. And definitely makes you look jealous.

And the last thing (but I can already expect, not the least) - being in the game at some point in time and acquiring a time-limited exclusive item can be looked at as a way of a company showing appreciation for you being a part of that games history. I ain't got problems with that, the same as many other people here, even though I have ZERO time-limited exclusives because I joined "late".

  • @burnbacon https://seaofthieves.wiki.gg/wiki/Category:Time-Limited_Items 1011 according to this.

  • @potatosord Do you believe that all the cosmetics people received by completing commendations in Arena (a mode that isn't in the game anymore) should be earnable by anyone in the current patch?

Also I've never heard of or seen anybody bully players or say that they're bad over not having a time limited cosmetic. that sounds completely made up.
