Update ideas???

  • Hello fello Pirate!!!
My friends and I play SOT, ALL THE TIME. We often discuss what we enjoy about the game. Sometimes, we talk about what could or should be added to the game. For instance, not all of us have "invested" in pets. I think if you gave a small purpose to buying them, more people may be interested. What if a pirate that has a pet were able to hand it a skull, gem, or other type of small item to hold/carry. For example: when you're on an island and there are multiple items you have to carry. You could have your pet one item to bring closer to the ship. Something small like that.
Another idea would be captained ships having the ability to "kick" or remove a player. We have all played in open crew at some time or another and had that "TOXIC" player come in. They refuse to do anything, eat all of your food you were saving for battle or to sell, and other join just to throw fire and blunder bombs around your ship just before leaving your game. If someone has the ability to leave a ship because it's not what they were looking for, why can't the captain have the ability to approve their team as well? How many times do we have to lose hours worth of loot because someone wants to take their bad day out on us? Yes, we have the Brig, but that takes the whole team to vote, and is only available for larger ships. A lot of pirates out there like myself, we love our Sloop. We should have more say in who gets to sail with us or not. Maybe to make it fair, if we have the option to kick a player, we should have to select a reason why. Pirate ratings might help this situation. This way poorly rated pirates can be coded to not be put in with the better ones? IDK, it's just a thought. But having a Brig on a sloop, like the skelly sloop has...that would be nice as well. Maybe make it so that if a pirate is sent to the Brig, they are unable to activate Blunder or Firebombs.
Hunters Call has certainly been a big hit this season. Especially since the update with the new megs. With more and more hunters call ships out there, some pirates would like to see more cooktop stations on their boats. Would it be possible to add a third burner to the Brigantine, and possibly 4 to the Galleon?
And my final suggestion before I take to the seas for this afternoon to hunt ancient megs would be for my fellow brethren, I would just like to say I LOVE Sea of Thieves! And there are so many out there who feel just as I do. These suggestions are just a few options that I think would make a great game even better. After all, "options" are the little things that can make the biggest difference to players. We have the ability to choose how we would like to decorate or ship. What if we could have the ability to design it? Would it be possible to make it when a pirate purchases a ship, they could choose the layout? There are games out there that allow players to change every little aspect of every little thing. Some people are driven to those games because they enjoy having unlimited possibilities. I don't think we need that. But what if we could? When a player purchases their ship, the ability to customize it's layout could just be the difference that brings in more players. There are so many things they players would like to see. As I said before, I love Sea of Thieves. I feel that these few ideas could make a great game, even greater!!!

  • The entire point of not giving pets a purpose is so that they aren't a required purchase in order to be on the same footing as everyone else. You are asking for a form of pay to win.

Kicking players brings some problems with it, namely removing players and any rewards they should have gotten by turning loot in, which is why they use the brig system instead.

These are both topics that are brought up frequently, and you can find more in depth discussion about them if you search the forums.

  • @BBJJ52612 I invite you to my sloop. You and I stack Athena for 3hrs, and have amassed quite a lot. A friend of mine who still needs Athena rep and is very close to distinction 5 messages me, asking if I have room. I kick you from my ship and invite them instead and we turn in. Would you be perfectly fine with this? Oh, and if you raise a ticket about me, all I need to say is you were griefing me because you anchored us, or ate a pineapple when we had plenty of coconuts to top off your health. Are you cool with this? Also fun fact, sloops used to have brigs, before they were removed.

-Adding another cooktop surface to the brig/gally, wouldn't exacty be fair to the sloop now would it?

-Changing the layout to ships? So if I board your boat and need ammo, I can't find it? How is that fair? If I'm doing hourglass, I can place 2 cannons on one side of the ship? This not only sounds like a complete mess, but a nightmare for the devs to code as well.

No. This makes pets pay 2 win.
Plus, pets are cosmetic only. The devs have said this in the over 5090000899807 threads about making pets pay 2 win.

Another idea would be captained ships having the ability to "kick" or remove a player.

And now, when you play open crew, the captain kicks you to let his friend in. You now get 0 payout on the treasure you just spent 2 hours helping gather.
Plus, 'All Pirates Are Equal'. It's right in the pirate charter.

Purpose. Because we want a pet to take with us, put clothes on and run around with.

What if a pirate that has a pet were able to hand it a skull, gem, or other type of small item to hold/carry.

P2W item. If you dont have a pet, your missing out and not everyone has money to spend on such features.

Con: Join random crewmate, spend hour together, have hoard of loot. Kicked because Capt friend wants on. :/

We should have more say in who gets to sail with us or not.

Close Crew, Open a Looking For Group.

Some pirates would like to see more cooktop stations on their boats.

Or visit a Fortress...now you have 6 cooking pots.

Would it be possible to make it when a pirate purchases a ship, they could choose the layout?

That be a whole new coding thing, and Im sure it has it up and downs. Depending on how much freedom they give.

  • @europa4033 Sure, we can spend 3 hours gathering loot together. Oh wait…we just lost everything to another ship because they wanted it. How is this different? I’m not trying to be negative. I’m just curious. Maybe this can be resolved by closing out this option whenever there is loot onboard or within a certain time after a world event is completed by “team”. I’m don’t wish to take anything away from people who actually want to play. I enjoy joining open crews and meeting new people. There are always those players who just a downright TOXIC! How many times have you had a player join you just to fire bomb your ship or drop everything into the water just to leave “when they are done”? I just think, if it’s your boat, you should have a little more say in the matter.

Because you had a chance to cash it in and/or fight back against the other ship. Being instantly removed from the game is completely different.

To answer your question, I've never had that happen to me because I don't do open crew for starters. The point is, kicking players from your ship can be abused too much by players, and they'd come here with torches and pitchforks saying how this isn't fair. "Within a certain time after a world event is completed by team." So, if I complete a FotD, wait 5min, ask this random player to choose a number 1-5 and he chooses wrong, I can kick him and turn in the loot myself. Got it. If you enjoy open crew, that's great, however you run the risk of being trolled, your food eaten, your supplies dropped over the side, etc. Just because you want the kick option to deal with it because YOU'VE chosen to accept that risk doesn't mean it should be implemented/created, and applied to the playerbase. Because now innocent people will get kicked.

  • @europa4033 I appreciate your response and input. All I'm saying is people who have a sloop and chose open, should have some way of either being able to kick someone or jail them. I'm not saying this is something that should be done in order to give people power to abuse. i'm just saying something should be done to help people protect themselves and/or their ship. I don't mean spend 3 hours together stacking and then kicking them when it's time to sell either. If someone is with you while you earn treasure, they should be able to be with you while it's sold. If there is a kick option, it should have rules or a point system like the new one they are about to implement. When players chose to play "open", it's usually the ones who don't own the ship who have all the power. Something should be done about that. I can see if it's a chartered ship, not giving the ability to remove players, but just like how you play closed, you get to decide who you play with. Every now and then, I chose to play open because I enjoy mixing things up from time to time and playing with players on all different levels. I'm not saying it's perfect, it was just a rough idea. When people come over to your house, do you let them stay and do whatever they want because they can? Or do you expect them to respect the fact that it's your house? When I'm on the seas, I don't mind letting new players up my ladder. As long as they show me the same respect I show them, they can stay as long as they'd like. Noone should have to leave their own ship because someone is toxic or won't leave themselves.

  • @BBJJ52612 You have to realize that people will absolutely take advantage of that power to kick others if it means their friend gets to cash in. Rules or a point system is relative to the individual and pointless to implement. I can say whatever I want about a random player and use that as a means to remove them. He keeps going AFK. He's wasting our supplies. He keeps eating the pineapples. Regardless if any of those points are true or not, getting you kicked so their friend could join is still the point, and will continue being abused.

To answer your question about guests over at my house, yes I expect them to respect the fact that it's my house, but you forget sir: this is a video game, and you don't control other players. It may be your ship, but to expect people to "play nice be respectful and do the right thing all the time", isn't going to happen lol.

No one should join a ship, help complete an objective, and suddenly find themselves getting removed. If this was the case, you'd destroy the SoT community discord in an instant, as no one would be able to trust anyone else to not remove them. Can you imagine the amount of tickets and reports they'd have to deal with? "I helped this guy do a FoF, we go to turn in, and I find myself removed, saying I wasn't there was I was." Who are you going to believe?

You choose to play with random players, whatever happens after that, is the result of your choice. Don't ask for this option to deal with griefers you've subjected yourself to when that ability will get taken advantage of so much by everyone, and for anything.
