Melee is fun but I think it could be better and Rare already has the concept in the game they just need to use it, the Rapier and Heavy sword. All Rare needs to do is make them there own class with different animations. The Rapier would be a fast 4 hit combo at 15 damage a stab with a charge hit that deals 50 damage that can pierce multiple people at once. The Heavy sword would be a slow 2 hit combo at 35 damage a swing with a overhead charge hit that would deal 70 damage to a single person. The Rapier would be focused on single target damage and the Heavy sword would focus on hitting multiple targets. The animations for the Rapier would one handed thrusting and the Heavy blade would be two handed swings. Spotting them would be easy as the Rapier wilder would have one hand behind there back and the Heavy sword wilder would have two hands on the sword.

@coltmagnum500 I agree with this. On top of it just being kinda weird that the rapier, cutlass, and heavy sword all function exactly the same, I think that having more melee options in the game for different playstyles is super important.
At the moment the only melee weapons in the game are the sword and the knives; but the knives are generally used more as a ranged attack, since they're so difficult to get a kill with using the standard stab.
When it comes to combat, most avid pvp players use blunder sniper or pistol sniper because they're so good and can get kills so quickly. The sword takes more time and you have to get closer. (Plus for a lot of people it's a little less fun because a lot of sword users will just run at you and spam the sword swipe, which makes fun sword duels rare.)
I also think that your heavy sword idea is especially good. It would be a great way to take on larger crews. I think it would be cool if the heavy sword was pretty slow, but did damage to a wide area of effect, killed in two or three slices, and had some knockback to it. This way, it would be a viable way of fighting people because it's such a heavy hitter, but also it would make it so people who use this sword wouldn't be chasing after people sword spamming. I think double gunners wouldn't complain about this sword as much because it will feel less like you're getting swordnadoed.
The rapier would be cool too, maybe it does less damage per hit than the standard cutlass but it hits a lot faster, maybe a little quicker than the knives. It would have a small aoe, so you would probably only hit someone if they're almost in the middle of your screen, but if you can keep them right in front of you you hit them pretty fast until you miss. Maybe the more you hit them, the faster your hits become, and when you miss a strike, it slows down again? Fun mechanics like that would be cool to play around with.
