Randomly blew up on my ship, ship also sank

  • I was on my way back to an outpost and wasn't near anything, was just in the open seas away from any islands. Went below deck for 5 seconds then randomly blew up. When I respawned my ship was sunk. I just started playing and no other players were in the lobby. No other ships, no islands near me, no rocks. Once I got back to where I sank, some of my loot was still there but the item I needed for my voyage was gone. I'm not sure why this happened or whether I accidentally did something? I was just moving chests below deck. Please let me know if you know what happened

You probably ran into a keg. They happen to randomly spawn all over the map.

Make sure you are scanning the water.

  • bird kegs

often unforgiving for solos and not a big deal for bigger crews/ships

random kegs mixed in with the flotsam

even the best solos can take a quick L at unfortunate moments, you can avoid some, some are just gonna happen.

  • Thank you for the quick replies. I didn't know that could happen but I'm glad to know my character didn't decide to randomly blow up. Will definitely be looking out for these in the future!

Something you can do is not take extra risks if you have something of value.

If something of value is on the boat and you are heading to an outpost or important destination avoid the front of the sloop underneath, like equipment chest, vanity, clothing. This is a danger zone.

Then keep your character behind the wheel or anchor if you are just sailing. Your character can survive a double tap keg and probably won't fly off.

anywhere near the map/voyage table should be alright most of the time

then you can just get to bucket mode and you'll have some wiggle room with time.

  • @luigi-matt77 Ships do randomly blow up though. I have no idea how that happens...

  • @wolfmanbush if he was on high seas he could have also had a tucker up in the crows or something who kegged him and swam off only with the voyage item to be a bit of a dirty pirate

Sometimes they don't care about the loot just the statement

Never seen that, there's always something that triggers it. Whether it be random like going over a keg in water or some other player interaction.

I see it lots - ships randomly explode almost every session I play.

Maybe, maybe not. Nobody can really know, it's a big mystery.
