I'm not saying by any means this should be the case. I respect the grind for Legendary Hunter which is why I started it myself before this season. However, the original wording of the Legendary Hunter commendation makes it seem like the new "Call of the Hunter" commendations will count towards unlocking it, assuming they go to grade V. I'm just curious if this is the case after looking through the new commendations this season.

If the new commendations are in the Hunter’s Call category alongside the Legendary Hunter commendation, I believe they should count towards Legendary Hunter.
It doesn’t hurt to check and test, though. I haven’t gotten a chance to play the new season yet, so I’m not completely sure.
Legendary Hunter of the Sea of Thieves doesn't specify what commendations need to be completed, only a number (57) - which was all of the existing commendations prior to this update.
The OP is basically asking if the new commendations can be done in lieu of some of the old ones, in order to make up that number.
I don't know the answer, as I already have LHotSoT. The way to check would be to complete some of the new comms and see if the number goes up.
