I learnt from AShinyRay in his video "Sea of Thieves NEEDS a Map Expansion" that one way to include newer content in this game would be to have other areas that you can dive to instead of expanding the open world as there are memory problems. So I thought what if instead of going through a portal or diving to a new area, we get the ship swallowed whole by a big whale controlled by the Sirens and have to escape it? Storywise it could explain where the Sirens are hiding this entire time.
The esophagus could be the loading screen and you get thrown into the stomach of the fish, where there is old some prisons and your pirate crew are the newest prisoners of the jail. The Siren Queen traps the souls of people who are gobbled up inside a loot item (like a cursed chest) and if you can't fight your way out or solve puzzles your soul is bound for good.
The fighting or puzzles should take the same amount of time (maybe 30 minutes?) regardless of crew size, but if another crew is swallowed up - whether it be from a fight they were in with the other crew or from another server - it should take less time if they co-operate. If they fail, they are not sent back to an outpost straight away, their souls get trapped inside a cursed chest (that acts like a disguised chest so they can move around in but can't jump out of) and get dumped on the next player ship that spawn in this area as an example of what happens if the next crew fails to escape. If the newest crew is able to solve the puzzles or fight their way out, they can leave with the players inside the cursed chests and it automatically breaks when they re-enter the Sea of Thieves. You rush back to the surface through the whale's spout, which hides the loading gate back in.
If the newer players fail to rescue the chests containing the players they miss out on bonus gold, doubloons and reputation. If no one succeeds in leaving and everyone is doomed to be a chest, the screen fades to black and Ramsey or Flameheart or some other NPC rescues you and puts you back in the hub world.
I think this is a great idea and there are many ways the players who end up partaking in this world event would handle it, as there is the opportunity to work together but against one another.
