Whats the point of adding a harpoon gun next season?

  • Why is rare adding a harpoon gun? Every time I sloop im getting boarded from the front and back by people crud launching and dolphin diving out of the water. If people can already board by bypassing ladders it just seems pointless. Instead rare should first fix the exploits and actually punish people who exploit.

  • As a solo I'm not as concerned as many. I think it'll slow way down like most things and won't be a big deal after the first month or so.

I think you make a good point though, the exploiting these days is wild, we are past the sus accusations of the past, a lot of this stuff is pretty provable these days. As we saw with the duping of season 13 this stuff is becoming more and more of a part of the experience.

I've been in multiple ship battles where I am literally the only player not exploit launching in the fight.

Having an intended feature is obviously better than exploits but with exploits being such a part of what other people are doing in fights now, it's not a good look.

  • @wolfmanbush its. Its not hard to do the launch. I just choose not to do it because its not an intended mechanic. I literally have a clip of a guy launching out of the water and onto the front of my ship on xbox servers. How can i defend that? Its just frustrating. When i read the tos i think its a given that exploiting anything that isnt a intended game mechanic is a no go, but so many don't see it that way. Having a harpoon gun seems pointless especially if you have to give up a weapon slot. Why would exploiters want to give up a weapon slot if they can board without ladders onto brigs/sloops already?. I havent seen anyone be able to board my galleon yet with our touching a ladder but ive seen them get to to top ladder rung.

  • Why add it?

Easy to grab loot, harpoon around like Spider-Man, it silly tool. They want more silly stuff

I think they should re-address it. When they said it wasn't in the ban list all that did was give people the green light to do it.

So then they have a situation where people aren't worried about it and SoT partners are out there doing the hall monitor thing during encounters which just isn't anything people are gonna take seriously.

Imo it makes more sense to make it very clear that exploiting as they are is violating ToS.

Sot is having a real issue right now with people not getting how much of this stuff is a risk. I'd prefer it's a clear and transparent process that isn't overly harsh but does make it clear that being held accountable is not off the table.

What people are missing about all this exploiting is that Rare can just change their mind, Rare can still ban no matter what they said. They can just tack it on to other violations. They've acknowledged some of it as exploits which means it's clear it's also a violation of xbox ToS. People are not as safe in exploiting as they think they are.

  • The harpoon gun sounds like a lot of fun to me. I don't exploit and i haven't seen anyone exploit against me, even in Hourglass, though i'm not looking out for it so maybe it happened once or twice. I also don't watch any content creation for SoT and i feel like that's where the exploits are usually hovering in or around, which makes it a bigger thing than it might be in game for people who watch that kind of stuff.

Anyhow, Rare adding a tool for people to legitimately get around quicker without exploits is a good thing imo.

  • It will make lighting the brazier on Crooked Masts easier. Also that one memory on top of Plunder Outpost. New tuck spots to watch out for.

  • @burnbacon I’m all for adding silly stuff. That’s how I like playing the game lol
