My issues with the Burning Blade event

  • To start this off; the idea behind the event is really fun but in reality it gets quite tedious and a lot of downtime.

    Took us hours to even find a "un-taken" Burning blade since people end up speedrunning to it the second it spawns, take it over and slam it into an outpost just to sell the CoF and then leave the server and repeat somewhere else. That's one of the main issues, the fact that the CoF is on the Burning Blade, it should've remained on the FoF to split the attention between more events to make the server more alive. As it stands, Burning blade is the only event worth anything at all and if you end up on a server where someone already has it, it's a 99% chance the CoF is sold long ago and if you manage to sink it you get a sword that's worth barely anything at all that also has a huge beam coming out of it and the mark on the map of course.

    Once you actually own the Burning blade itself, going between these puzzle-rooms is just a grind. The "coffers" that they hyped up in the trailer that would be "filled with riches", has 500g inside of them. Nothing else. Could've made it so the horn had a chance to spawn in them at least due to the rarity. The puzzles themselves were fun the first 3 times then it quickly got stale going between them over and over again since most commendations requires you to interact with them in one way or another.

    I did a 5hr+ session today with 3 others and once we had the Burning Blade, we never really felt threatened either due to the fact that we had 6 skeletons that kept firing cannons and repairing and we only really had to hold ladders and take cannons to hit the enemy with chains and after that it was usually over. We got attacked by pretty decent Brig that hammered us with cannons but even then, we only had to bucket maybe.. 3-4 times? since the skeletons are really on top of repairs once they are down there.

    The positives: It feels epic being on it, you have skeletons all around you that helps out and even Sea Forts ignores you, which was a great touch. Using the fire-cannon in the front too is a fun challenge since it's not the easiest to hit on range. Once you have racked up 8+ puzzle-streak, the payout was actually WAY better than I thought it would be. We got around 550K when we turned in the ship (no loot counted.)

    My ideas to improve this event/patch: Move the CoF to FoF again or any other event but it just fits on FoF the best. Lower the required amount of puzzles you need to chain-up before sending in the ship again, going between them and doing puzzles for hours is just a chore and a grind for those that wanna push the new commendations. The server often ends up empty too since they see the ship is taken already so you go around in an empty sea while no other event is allowed to spawn.

    To end this mixed rant; I was really excited for this event and it for sure has it's moments but it gets overshadowed by the huge time-sink you have to commit before you get anywhere and the various other reasons I mentioned above.
