Sea Dogs Tavern Fight Club

  • So the arena area in the middle of the sea of thieves know as sea dogs tavern has always been under utilized since the addition and removal of the arena game mode. I suggest to turn it into a fight club place for people to practice fighting. My idea was have a large arena coliseum (maybe inside the sea dogs tavern) that you could sail to with your crew and be able to fight and damage each other only while in the coliseum. I figure it'd be and invisible area surrounding the area that turns everyone's names red and you duel to the death and upon death you aren't downed for someone to revive you nor would you respawn on the ferry of the dammed, but you would instead be instantly revived in the stands around the coliseum with full health ready to fight again. Likewise if you are the last one left standing in the coliseum your health is rapidly restored to full so that everyone is ready to duel it out again to continue to fight as long as you want. I feel like it would be a good way to practice with different weapons to better understand effective ways to fight off other pirates.
Maybe you could also raise a flag on the island itself that marks it on the map to invite others to come duel it out with you and your crew.

I think it's a shame this place has been mostly forgotten since it's addition to the game and aren't really any reasons to visit it.
I also think it would be cool to add arena back for like a weekend or two per season as a limited time event. I know the game mode wasn't very popular and queue times were pretty long but I think making it a limited time event once a month might help with that.

  • @monkip Hey Pirate !

Sounds like a cool idea, but not very practical. Arena in no shape or form should return. There are plenty of islands being revamped for season 13, that otherwise pirates have never visited before, now will because they are getting changed for a seasonal update, which brings purpose to seek out those islands willingly rather than a random quest that has a small chance of sending you to it.

Changing the Sea Dogs Tavern tarnishes it leaving in the first place, there are plenty of reasons it was discontinued, it had its journey and it was the best choice for it to end when it did. Thanks for posting !

    Safe Journeys.

This post was more about a fight club aspect where you could fight and kill members of your own crew more then anything. I never really liked arena or pvp but I think having a little area to practice sword fighting and gun play while being revived instantly would really help newer players get a feel for the weapons and combat in a safe and easily repeatable environment. As of now I can only tell my teammates how to fight without being able to actually demonstrate or practice with them.

  • @monkip

Okay, so it's really a TDM / learning battle ground ? Having an area where you can practice and teach people without the threat of being killed or disturbed by others isn't Sea of Thieves. Would it be cool to be more on demand with teaching people, yes. But learning the feel of combat or how the guns feel in a "safe " environment just isn't the way things work. S.S is great for many things, but for learning what weapons feel good or most PvE mechanical skills, S.S is a great start for a newer pirate trying to gain some sense, before working towards H.S. Sea of Thieves is a game of trial and error along with gaining knowledge & experience. If you start later in any game, you will be less experienced and prepared than someone who started before you.

You don't need to always hold their hand to show them how to do it, let them fail, get back up and try again. Teaching is about risking them to fail, for them to fail what you want them to achieve, everyone needs to fall down and try again themselves. Again you can't walk them through everything, they need to learn it themselves without you doing everything. Explanation, Watching , Listening, Patience, and Trust. Five very important things when it comes to teaching someone something. It's Commendable for your passion to help others learn and prosper, but sometimes we must let them fail, for them to accomplish what they want.

    Safe Journeys.

  • Like the arena in STV on World of Warcraft. I like this idea a lot. I think you would also be able to hit a lever or something for a world event cloud to pop up like two swords crossing each other indicating to other players that there is a player there wanting to TDM also. Or it automatically does that. I'd love to TDM with my crew. They could easily leave the whole area alone and just revamp the interior of the tavern where we used to wait in queue (for hours) for our arena battle to begin. You would want respawn on your boat though to swap load outs before getting back in, but add a zip line or ladder directly up to the tavern instead of taking the long route that currently exists.

  • Any new content involving the SDT is a yes for me!

  • There was that one event/story where we had to travel to a Sea of the Damned version of the Arena tavern.

As most of these events go, it quickly turned into:
1] people trying to complete the event.
2] people trying to interrupt people from completing the event.
3] people PvPing the folks from group 2 (since they want to fight so badly 😈), which pulled their attention away from group 1.

It was chaotic. And while I felt for those struggling in group 1, it was pretty fun being in group 3. It provided folks with a playground to TDM. Nothing to lose, nothing to gain. You show up, PvP, then leave when you want.

Rare should've just left it in. Could've stripped all elements from the story/event from it; not tied any commendations to participating. It would have lived in its own instance, completely optional, and had no impact on the main map's organic activity.

Would've made a pretty neat "fight club."

  • @theblackbellamy

Oh yeah I think I heard about that story thing they did and it having a lot of pvp. I unfortunately didn't play for a while so I missed out on a lot of those events they did. But having an arena pvp area you load into through a portal would be a good idea! You could activate a thing at an outpost that could open one of the tall tale portals nearby but maybe make it red and allow over players to see it and join in. I still think having an area to practice with weapons and kill teammates would be fun and better practice then most encounters I have on the seas of just getting one tapped by a blunder lol.

  • @theblackbellamy that adventure was literally one of my most favorite moments in SoT, alongside the other adventure with the Shrouded Deep. I think when my Galleon crew did it, we had like 4 other ships with us (so the entire sever basically) and we had so much fun just running around fighting and completing the mission. They need to put the Killer Whale back at M-12 because it was so awesome seeing it there. I would also love to be able to repeat those adventures too.. Those were much better days. Crazy to think it's been over 2 years since.

  • @thamb0 when events are part of the main server, like the Killer Whale at M-12, or what happened at Golden Sands, the main story can't progress unless those events finish.

The thing about the Sea Dog tavern story is that it existed in its own instance. So keeping it in wouldn't have hindered any changes to the main server/story.

Maybe future events should be designed to exist in their own instances? So that even if the main
story moves forward, they can be revisited and appreciated later on.

  • great idea im all for it

  • @theblackbellamy agree on everything, but they could have a ship crashed at M-12 and just name it something else I guess? I just thought it looked sooo cool having a big Galleon grounded out on those rocks. We need more of those things around the map.
