Regarding the Emporium Curses

  • I think I speak for most when I say that people don't really like the direction the Emporium is going. Recolors, it taking visible priority over the coin shops, and now Curses. The separated outfits were a step in a right direction but it seems Rare has went back to costumes.
Curses always were grounded in lore, and were unlocked in lore-related things. The stone one could be argued whether it fits or not (one guy got turned into stone in the books), but how do you explain THIS???
(for some reason pictures don't want to work so just imagine there's a pic of the storm strike curse here)

We haven't gotten new curses since Season 8, and suddenly we got 3 this season. And we'll probably get even more random curses that don't fit the game's world and just look "sort of cool" cuz Rare probably has 5 finished already and waiting to be released.

Players don't want random flashy bits under their flashy costumes, we want cool, grounded in the game's world curses under actual clothing.

  • Imo it's not a matter of what they sell it's a matter of "is the emporium push leading to a well/better maintained environment".

Everyone will have different views on that, in the social spaces it'll lean more towards "not good enough" and in more organic situations it'll lean more towards "whatever" or "good enough for me".

My personal view is that I am satisfied with the product. I disagree with their decisions a lot on some things but I support the overall product. I like what they offer and disagreement on this or that doesn't change that.

As long as the content is free and as long as I know that a lot of people really enjoy playing this game I don't have much to criticize about the emporium. Pros just outweigh the cons in SoT, imo.

  • Maybe some curses are not lore related and they’re for funsies? If that’s the case, then they need to be less appealing than lore based ones. I disagree about paid curses being made available on the emporium, but if Rare are choosing to go down this path, then we can only protest it by not spending irl money on the items, or feeding back their intentions on the insider forum (unless it’s incorrectly removed by moderators).

  • @wolfmanbush Yeah man I also love this game and think it's amazing. I'm not saying the whole game is now awful because of the Emporium changes, but I still think they're starting to become a problem.

When I think of "starting to become a problem" I look at it like this.

Hg cosmetics. This is a grind that burnt so many people out, I saw it day after day. It's in game cosmetics but the cost was losing passion and peace for a lot of players.

Serious pve grind cosmetics. Similar to Hg. Where it just leads to more frustration than fun in the reality of a sot environment.

Giveaway cosmetics. "free" but the cost is people running around jumping through hoops (sometimes for YEARS). I don't see this as a positive thing at all.

As someone that cares about the health of the experience I can't really just look at "money bad" I have to look at the big picture and the big picture to me is seeing that someone spending 10 bucks and having fun is so much healthier than spending 0 and getting themselves in a cycle that will remove their love for the experience.

  • I am kind of split about this.

On one hand, I feel like if revenue from larger emporium footprint ends up leading to game enhancements then that is great and fine with me. Comparatively, SoT has always had a way more low key monetization plan than other live service games and I have loved that, so seeing them expand it a bit isn't 100% horrible in my mind. BUT it could easily spin out.

As for putting things like a curse in the emporium, I'm not a huge fan, but mostly because there is an unloved emissary (Hunters) in the game that would be a perfect fit for the storm strike curse. At the end of the day it isn't that huge a deal, but it feels like curses are one cosmetic that have always been, and I think should remain, part of actually playing the game to obtain.

  • i’m upset because I made a suggestion I have the storm curse while ago only for it to be an emporium item that cost 299 ancient coins. if it was tied to some special event or a buidlge rat combination, That would be another thing. But the fact that they sold off Probably would’ve been multiple people suggestion for cheap really grind my gears.
