no more shooting yourself in the cannons

  • remove the mechanic of entering the cannon and throwing yourself at the enemy ship. Removing this mechanic would make ship battles more interesting and intense. Today battles are reduced to someone throwing themselves at the other's ship and blowing up the throwables with their own hand. please remove this so the game becomes a little more interesting.

  • Simply put, no. That mechanic is one of the most unique characteristics of this game, and the game has expressed "tools not rules" since launch. It is a tool you have at your disposal, if you dont like it, you dont have to use it, but just because you dont like it does not mean others should not be allowed to use it.

  • It wouldn't make naval better or more interesting.

The game is full of people that reset a lot

nothing wrong with it, people get to play how they want to play but it is terribly unfun for the other side.

Tdm style as an option in combat is absolutely necessary so that combat situations don't get even worse than many of them already are. That's coming from someone that only navals and almost never tdm/boards and loses to it regularly.

Not only is it an extremely fun feature for a game like this but it's necessary to get some of these fights to actually end with someone sinking, rather than just a - forever reset- run/chase thing.

I love naval in this game but making it to where people just reset more isn't gonna help naval and def won't make it more fun.

  • So will just: Ram into ships more often

Shooting yourself from a cannon isn’t that common. Some use exploits still in the game.

  • Maybe you should try shooting yourself out of the cannons. It's fun. "remove boarding from the pirate game" lol really? Why would you play a pirate game and want the ability to board removed? that's nonsense

Yes lets remove a very beloved mechanic out of this game over 6! Years after its release…

You are quite young in your pirating career and over the course you wil learn how to deal with people shooting out, when there is little to no pressure on you by way of holes in your ship it is easy to fend off boarders and throwables without a board will not change the battle unless you let it overwhelm you

  • Have you considered that as a new player, you're not likely to be in the best position to judge what would make the game more interesting.

All the people who claim less boarding improves the fights realistically aren't that good at naval either. and despite claiming that pure naval would make for much more exciting battles would likely end up just running away.

  • @nistal36 No. Historically, are you aware that the most common method used by pirates against an enemy was boarding? Also this is a mechanic unique to SoT, getting rid of it wouldn't make anything "interesting". Just improve your hand-to-hand.

  • Seeing videos of players loading themselves into the cannons and shooting themselves/each other at islands and other ships is one of the quirky mechanics that seduced me into buying Sea of Thieves.

It’s absolutely ridiculous in the best of ways.

Also it’s balanced for PvP because: You can do it too :)

    HOWEVER!
If you want ship to ship combat without melee, I recommend Guns of Icarus.
Steampunk airships and absolutely no boarding mechanics.
Though you need a 3d awareness.

  • While they’re at it, they should just remove the sails too. Too complicated and not fun. Boat should just go. Silly devs 😉

  • You know that if you ladder guard against a border and they don't get on your ship they misplayed right?

  • @nistal36

Didn't you know pirates used this technique all the time to board other ships?

    So much this...

Defense is way too easy. Resetting is far too easy. All it would do is make long fights even longer. Hard pass.

Plus, there's multiple commendations and locations in game explicitly designed with cannoning yourself out in mind.

Now, I do think there needs to be a higher risk involved with spam boarding attempts. As it stands, it's virtually penalty free to just turn out and spam board over and over. Personally, I thought keeping the high/instant shark spawns was the perfect risk element.

  • I get the sense that you think Sea of Thieves is meant to be a serious pirate simulator... when it's just a silly swashbuckling adventure game. Firing yourself from a cannon is just a stupidly fun mechanic and totally within the vibe of the game.

  • After reading this thread all I have to say is pay more attention and guard your ladders! We have the tools to protect ourselves from flying pirates!

  • Just you wait to see what the harpoon gun will do...

  • The only problem here is your lack of experience with the game. no amount of “throwable” thrown at you by hand will do any significant damage to your ship or yourself unless you are totally new to the game. I really don’t see Rare removing one of the most emblematic and used feature of this game. One that I don’t remember reading anyone complaining about until now.

Why don’t people want to learn from their mistakes and improved themselves. It’s always about nerfing the game instead.

  • From the perspective of a new ps5 player.
At first some of the mechanics seem really annoying.
But as soon as you learn to listen for certain sounds, you can counter it most of the time.

Removing the feature would actually reduce the amount of plays someone can make or counter.
If i wanted to be bound to pure ship battles, i would play a certain other "pirate" game.

    Blackwake?

  • @kezmur
Skull and bones. I am using the term pirate rather loosely

  • Guys! This is it! The answer to fixing Sea of Thieves!…. Removing one of the super fun and unique aspects of the game!

Its crazy to me that people don’t spend any time to actually think about what they are suggesting. Nope, because something got you sunk or was inconvenient, it needs to be removed.
