New Lunar and Weather Events

  • The World of Sea of Thieves is full of vibrant colorful landscapes, there’s a variety of Lunar and Weather Events currently in the game, Shooting Stars, Eclipses, Storms, Fog. To name them off, but I would like to shed some light on ones that could be added.
    LUNAR EVENTS:
-Blood And Blue Moons- First off the idea of these ones could be played around a bit, considering these would be RNG related events I wouldn’t want to see anything major happen, maybe for the duration of the lunar event you get a hue or a tint of said color all across the sea.
-Meteor Showers- This one is pretty self explanatory, the night sky would be lit up by tons of shooting stars for a period of time or until the night is over.
    WEATHER EVENTS:
“Note: Given Stability in the Game these are unrealistic ideas that would take years to ever see implemented in, I am fully aware of how some of these would need to change up water physics entirely but it is really fun to talk about.”
-Light Rain- as the name implies a lighter calmer variation of rain.
-Rogue Waves- could and should only appear in the storm in the wilds, to create a more… wild environment with harsher waves. You could counter these larger waves by sailing against them.
-Maelstroms- Giant whirlpools that would appear in the storm exclusive to the ancient isles, the counter for these would be to sail against the whirlpool at all costs.
-Tornados- These would be exclusive to the shores of Plenty storms and would severely damage ships and knock them back. Counter would be to avoid at all costs.
-Starless Nights- This one is a little harder to describe, with most video games that take place out at sea, the sky is always lit up by stars or auroras so the player can see, it’s no different with sea of thieves, but what if one night they disappeared, and the only light to guide you are the outposts and the ships lanterns. This could also be a gateway to add larger lighthouses to certain islands to guide players, like seen on Sailors Grave. This would lean into realism and may not be very well received and it may be very challenging to navigate through if ever seen in game, the map table and compass would have meaning once again to guide you through the darkness, and the sea would reclaim its title as being absolutely terrifying.

  • All fine, in tone and fun additions that would benefit adventure. I like it!

  • Forcing players to play around the environment only makes things more interesting. Weather events are the most fair parts of the environment in my opinion. Fog completely changes ship combat and I love that! It would be nice to see more things to make the environment and combat more interesting.

  • @grumpyw01f Indeed, there really needs to be more environmental changes, I would imagine that if most of these ideas would ever come to the game players would go out of there way to flat out avoid them, and the idea of “planning your voyages” would be way more prominent.

  • I like these ideas.

Love the lunar events - maybe there is a way to denote gold rush hour this way?

I also like that each region has its own hazards.

  • @ollieoxenfree It would be really nice just for each of the different regions to have any kinda of exclusive hazards, make the environment feel much more alive.

  • You had me at Lighthouses.

“That was the last thing I said.”

Good thing you said it 🤣

  • @straw-hat-blake The lighthouse at port merrick does no justice in my opinion.
