bone callers- too rare

  • While testing out the new stuff, I decided to go do a skeleton fort. After running around for a while, I found 1 bone caller, and spawned in some skellies to fight for me. They died in about two seconds, and I couldn't find any more bone callers. Then, another crew came along and sunk me, so I dived to another skeleton fort, to find a grand total of... 0 bone callers.

I know these things are supposed to be rare, but I don't see the point in introducing new content like this if you can't find them. I don't think they are good enough to justify being this rare, either. The skellies die very quickly, despawn after only a bit of time, and just don't feel worth the hassle of finding them.

I would like either a buff to bone callers themselves, or a buff to their spawn rates, so you can actually use them.

  • Good to know i just did voyages and found the same amount on random islands also outposts offers sometimes 1 or 2.maybe they meant active skull forts?

  • I was on the receiving end of a couple bone callers during solo hourglass to day and they were actually pretty annoying to deal with as I wasn't running cutlass so I'm not sure about a buff yet, they were just annoying enough to give the opponent the upper hand when i clearly had it before they spawned but not annoying enough to confirm the sink, so in regards to use in PvP on solos they seem to have a nice middle ground. I haven't encountered them anywhere else yet tho.

  • I found 3 at a single, Not active Fort.

  • Rareness is completely random, just like anything else that relies on barrel spawns to find. I've found 10+ at a single fort, and other times Zero. While having done over 20 forts today so far. However I have found ZERO NADA ZIP NOTHING at the Fleets that are also supposed to drop them, and be their primary source of dropping, with also around 20 Fleet completions. I believe the Fleet drop is broken, but Fort drop is working fine, just highly random.

Also, they are INCREDIBLY powerful PvP tools for disruption. They basically allow for FREE boards against any solo player, who can not leave them unattended and guard without getting pummeled. Less strong against most multiman crews, but the overwhelming majority of players either Solo or Duo, making them extremely useful.

Plus with the addition of new weapons that everyone will want to mess around with, we aren't always properly equipped to deal with them. Making them even better, albeit temporarily.

Bonecallers are honestly one of the most powerful things they've ever added into this game. Mostly in a PvP sense though, I do find them to be practically worthless in PvE as AI tends to get really dumb when fighting other AI for some reason.

Having found well over 100 today, they probably need to be toned DOWN because of the farmers. Definitely not up. Especially if the Fleet is working and I've just been unlucky in getting them.

Edit to add further: Shipwreck barrels seems to always have a good handful of them. More reliable than the Forts and Fleets.

  • My crew and I found close to 10 in our session last night either in inactive skeleton forts, shipwrecks, or sunken kingdom shrines.

The horn of fair winds however......we ran like 5 shrines/treasuries and searched multiple shipwrecks only to never find one.

Overall, it's really too early to call for tweaks to the numbers. The update is literally 24 hours old at this point. Let's give it a bit more time before using only our anecdotal experiences to call for buffs and nerfs.
